Day 32
Future Islands - Seasons (Waiting On You) (US single 2014)
It would be wilfully perverse not to pick this single and not to post this version. Sometimes things go viral for very good reasons. Like that cute dog shoving his face into snow. But with a death metal growl.
So many critics of Bluesky don’t understand that I want nothing to do with algorithms. I just want a chronological list of posts by people I choose to follow. For whatever reason.
Really that simple.
Six Guided By Voices albums from the past three years.
That terrifying moment you realise you haven’t checked in on Guided By Voices for a couple of years.
Embarrassing.
You ever considered doing them on Master Mind?

Day 31
Girls Aloud - On The Metro (UK 2012 not a single but it has a video but I think it’s just a tour film)
As a middle-aged man not QUITE as obsessed with GA as some people, I didn’t catch this banger at the time.
(You see, it’s the metro. Not the underground. The metro. Universal)
Bring on the triplets! Very Teutonic.
The rhythm switch at the end - where there should, by law, be a key change - is perfect.
Make a model of the solar system in art lessons. Learn about physics in science lessons. Seems fair.
Also. World Book Day has - for some reason - turned into a ‘football’ thing. Honestly. Terrible.
It’s weird how my opinions about education have got much more conservative after actually having a child in school.
One of my bugbears as the father of a science-y teenager. You don’t have to be able to draw an insect to understand how insects work. You don’t have to physically make a model of an atom to know about atomic structure. I suspect it’s because most primary school teachers have a humanities background.
World Book Day is appalling. It has nothing to do with books. Just who has a stay-at-home parent who can organise a costume. Stop it. And while we’re at it, stop turning science lessons into arts and crafts lessons. Papier mache volcanoes teach children nothing.
Remember seeing them at Chorlton Irish Club?
Couldn’t happen to a nicer person, obviously. But honestly. Does he think he can argue she wasn’t doing - and saying - exactly what he wanted.
Could be. I was thinking ‘wacky’ though. Sultans Of Ping ballpark. Perhaps that’s what did for them. ‘Artistic differences’.
The Excellent Sheep. Great band name. They’d be from Cork. Got signed to a major in 1990 then swiftly dropped.
It’s amazing. Wandering into the dark and coming back with a sax :) brilliant.

Day 30
Let’s Eat Grandma - Deep Six Textbook (UK 2016 single)
I know they’ve got ‘better’ and the Sophie tracks, but sometimes the first cut is the deepest. And what a way to introduce yourself. Just staring down the lads and being beautiful and strange.
youtu.be/K9G2Nr2h4D4?...
Yeah, the point is not that she is ‘working’, it’s that she’s CHOSEN to live there.
Queen or Kylie.
If you were to play Dire Straits and Television to an alien they would be absolutely baffled that one is cool and the other isn’t.
Is that the same stuff that makes Subway smell like robot vomit?
Yeah, I’m sure it used to be called Mr Wolf in our school.
You sharp-dressed charmer. :)
You should at least be able to build up some kind of Amazon credit by saying please to Alexa.

Day 29
Stealing Sheep - Shut Eye (UK 2012 single)
To me, inextricably linked to the rise of the family-friendly festival. Wonky pop for middle-class parents with kids on their shoulders. A market now totally won by Self Esteem.
