I'm one of the lucky ones. I received my renewal yesterday, with the correct legal name and gender. I don't know if that's because I slipped through in the chaos, or someone wouldn't comply.

And while I am safe, for now, know this: outting trans people will get us killed.

The salt in the wound is that the policy is utterly capricious. People with similar histories applying on the same day are getting opposite results. The State Department if in chaos. Meanwhile, trans folks, who have done nothing wrong, wait weeks to find out if they can travel safely. Or at all.

Even more bizarrely, people who are *renewing* passports after, in some cases, *decades* with aligned docs are having their gender makers changed. This is not just dangerous, but a violation of due process and the 14th A.

The good news is that the ACLU has filed suit on behalf of 1500+ trans folks

There are now plenty of reports of people having their supporting documents, and their passports, being confiscated. Trans folks are being denied changing markers on new applications, even if every single other doc--BC, DL, SSA--has been changed. Even if they've lived years as their true selves.
