Unfortunately, in January, Ms. Copeland was violently arrested while visiting family in Tampa, FL after trying to assist an immigrant neighbor. She was less than two blocks from her home. The FL State Attorney is refusing to drop a non-violent resisting arrest charge, which is a first degree misdemeanor. Her family was not allowed to post bail for over 72 hours and Ms. Copeland was not able to make phone calls. Ms. Copeland is a law abiding citizen and longtime resident of DC and Maryland who was made homeless and financially harmed last year because of her outspokenness to the Trump Administration. She is seeking funds to help rebuild her life, including legal support, as Hillsborough County's public defender's office refused to press the State Attorney to drop the charges prior to a court date on 2/24. We WILL be holding the seed share (for food garden plants) at the park across from the Wheaton Metro today! But depending on weather & seed supply, we might not stay to 12:30pm. The rain doesn't look too bad, and we have a canopy. Come say hi! If I can find my big thermos, we'll have warm tea.
