We recently held our very first HftY LGBTQIA+ social group 🌈

The day consisted of a small group get-together, a picnic in the park, spending quality time getting to know each other, and getting crafty in time for the @prideinlondon.bsky.social parade!

πŸ—£ Imagine having to trust an interpreter who might misrepresent your truth.

These are realities faced by many young people we work with. This Pride, we’re standing in solidarity with every young person seeking a better life - with love, support, and community 🧑

πŸ’ Imagine having to prove your sexuality or identity - when you’ve spent your whole life hiding it to stay safe.

🏠 Imagine trying to live authentically in accommodation where you’re not safe, or in a shared space that doesn’t respect your gender identity.

Happy Pride Month from Hope for the Young!

Pride is a beautiful time for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies to come together, celebrate, and share love. As this special month draws to a close, we’re also taking a moment to reflect on what Pride means for young people seeking sanctuary in the UK.

How will Rachel Reeves’s pledge to end asylum hotels work? The government wants to end the use of asylum hotels by 2029

We need a clear strategy, transparent timelines, and cross-sector partnerships to ensure that people seeking asylum aren't left in limbo.

The Government must work alongside local authorities and organisations working in this sector to ensure that the people affected are at the heart of the decision-making process. πŸ‘‡

However, without clear alternatives, this announcement only risks deepening instability for people seeking sanctuary.

Many young people that we work with are housed in hotels, and without a robust transition plan, will cause setbacks in education, mental health, and community integration. πŸ‘‡

🚨We welcome news that in the budget announcement, the Government committed to ending the use of asylum hotels by 2029.

This is a positive step forward towards reducing the reliance on hotels, with awful living conditions and segregation from society further exacerbating mental health and trauma. πŸ‘‡
