This is astounding. The @michigandaily.bsky.social upstages every single legacy outlet in the country when it comes to exposing the underbelly of higher education. Just tremendous work.

More than 1800 detainees are missing after the closure of Alligator Alcatraz. Their families and lawyers can’t find them and they’ve vanished from the ICE database. Feels like this should be a much bigger story www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...
ICE killed a father of three in Franklin Park a few days ago. They are snatching people at gas stations, at bus stops, and from their homes and cars, leaving screaming, panicked children in their wake. It is a nightmare, and when ICE has amassed 10,000 new agents, it could be the new normal.
When governments police museums, they are not simply policing exhibitions. They are policing imagination itself. Censorship has taken hold at the Smithsonian. I refused to play along.” —Amy Sherald
Ons thing that's really bugging me about the "PhD level intelligence" is that a PhD isn't a measure of intelligence, it's a measure of commitment to study and specialisation in a narrow field (and opportunity to do so).
"PhD level intelligence" isn't really a meaningful phrase

Faculty friends at @ufl.edu, in response to Rufo's attack on Ono, r/wingers say "but he closed the U-M DEI office, he's one of us!" It is important to know that he was 100% pro-DEI as long as it earned him 1.3M/year at U-M. He closed our DEI office AFTER Florida offered him 3M/year.
This isn't going to get the attention of Columbia, but it's at least as bad: the University of Maine is having its funding cut off because the governor of Maine dared to challenge Trump.

There is no such a thing as the Latino vote.
“I am filled with a sense of urgency and dread: dread at the apparently random waves of assaults against people and institutions closest to me; urgency to unearth the connections between these assaults.” – Audre Lorde
We organize. We work with our communities doing know your rights workshops. We armed them with information. We create sanctuary spaces. Those of us with privilege put out bodies on the line.
During Mexican Repatriation in the 1930s, 60% of Mexicans who were coerced, tricked, and forced to leave were U.S. citizens. Many were Mexican American children. Whole communities and families were torn apart. How do we stop history from repeating itself?
Jonathan Rosa and I had the amazing opportunity to work with an undergraduate student and a high school student to "translate" our "Undoing Appropriateness" article for high school students. The final product is available for free here:

In my first semester as a faculty member, the regents of University of Michigan are set to defund DEI. I’m a scholar of anti-racist health. I was hired by the university wide initiative on anti-racism. This is extremely troubling but I’m glad the Faculty Senate is ready to fight.
