Good sportswriting is just such a joy to read. And this is SO good.

Ditto. I don’t know what to say except please read this and then please take whatever action you can, however small, to advance the cause of justice.

A photo of the man murdered by ICE today, just before the shooting. He’s standing and holding a phone in his right hand and holding his empty left hand to the sky and looking behind him at a woman running away while an ICE agent closes in on him from the front. On the ground behind the man is a woman that the victim will soon try to help, leading several ICE agents to attack him and pin him to the ground, before shooting him several times.
We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun
Man, I bet the NRA is going to be furious when they hear that jack-booted thugs from the federal government executed a law-abiding citizen for exercising his Second Amendment right to carry a handgun.
Any second now, I'm sure.
He was a white guy, if that helps?
Hello? NRA?

If I were a current student instead of a disgruntled alum, I’d be mad as hell watching my degree get devalued before I’d even earned it.
“A research university that censors Plato abandons its obligation to truth, inquiry, and the public trust — and should not be regarded as a serious institution of higher learning.”

Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that’s on the cutting room floor? I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, “Should I smile or not smile?” and I said, “How would you want to be portrayed?” We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, “You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.” And I looked at him and I said, “You know, you do, too.”

I heard it in a tiny Lutheran church in Texas in 2017 and all I could think was “this song? I do not think it means what you think it means.”
The prose! I read brief excerpts of the Nuzzi book and the Lizza post and they both sound like entries in the purple prose category of the (late, lamented) Bulwer-Lytton contest 🙄
being able to hear the wheels on the Sherman tanks squeal on account of no one there is some incredible footage. A+ comedy.
No no no! These university leaders don’t get it. If you negotiate one on one you don’t buy peace; you just expose the whole sector and yourselves to more shakedowns. See law firms.
The only response is to unite in collective action and fight the Admin’s illegality. www.cnn.com/2025/05/31/p...
Maybe our taxpayer dollars can actually back to NASA and fund space research with actual experts who have some oversight and regulation?
I know I know...I'm silly.
This is a First Amendment question combined with a practical question. The answer is as follows.
First, the First Amendment protects advocating the moral and practical necessity of breaking the law in the abstract.
