It's #ScholarshipSaturday! Researchers discovered that the red-bellied lemur and the red-fronted lemur often keep the adventure going at nightโ€”sometimes traveling even farther than they do during the day. Meanwhile, the black-and-white ruffed lemur prefers more daylight activity.

Meet Deckenโ€™s sifaka!

One of nine sifaka species, these acrobatic lemurs spend their days searching for food. With powerful hind legs, they launch themselves from tree to treeโ€”sometimes gliding through the air with parachute-like folds along their sides.

This crowned lemur may be showing off that tongue, but when it comes to staying connected, itโ€™s all about the sound! Crowned lemurs often split into small foraging subgroups of 1โ€“4 individuals and use loud, โ€œpiercing yapsโ€ to keep track of one another when theyโ€™re far apart.

A black-and-white ruffed lemur sits perched on a thin branch, its long black tail hanging straight down beneath it.

Black and White Ruffed lemurs are the largest quadrupedal lemurs in Madagascar. Their bodies measure about 20 inches long, but that extra-long tailโ€”stretching around 23 inchesโ€”does some serious work, helping them balance as they move through the rainforest canopy.

Red-fronted brown lemurs are sexually dichromaticโ€”which means males and females wear totally different looks!

All red-fronted brown lemur babies are born looking like adult males! Females donโ€™t start developing their signature coloring until theyโ€™re about 3โ€“4 months old.

An indri leans back, head reared and mouth open mid-call, sending its song into the forest canopy.

Indris are the only lemurs that communicate by song. Their powerful, melodic calls rise and fall, echoing for miles to keep group members connected, warn neighbors to stay back, and even share details about whoโ€™s in the group. What else might their music be saying?
