Texas Banned Abortion. Then Sepsis Rates Soared.
ProPublicaโs first-of-its-kind analysis is the most detailed look yet into a rise in life-threatening complications for women experiencing pregnancy loss under Texasโ abortion ban.
Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublicaโs first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%.

I expected the cuts would be bad but I'm honestly stunned and sickened seeing how many great journalists the Washington Post just lost. People who nailed huge investigations, documented war zones, exposed horrific crimes, dropped all at once for failures they did not cause.

Seems as though they have laid off their entire photography staff. Photojournalists donโt just take photos, we report, we pitch, we take photos while our lives and safety are under threat. We explore our neighborhoods, restaurants and sports with a creative eye. Photojournalists do it all.

Article excerpt: In my few days in Minnesota, Iโve been witness to countless scenes that remind me of moments Iโve seen during previous trips covering conflicts around the world. I watched heavily armored federal units roll through quiet neighborhoods. In a grocery store parking lot, angry residents screamed at agents, demanding they leave the city. Masked and armed government agents pointed weapons toward me and some protesters during an encounter in the middle of the afternoon. Curious guests in a hotel elevator wondered why I was carrying around a medical pack and gas mask. Local residents thanked me for being there to witness the situation. A drunk man at a hotel bar cursed at me, saying the media was at fault. The wars weโve carried out as a nation abroad have come home.

ICE Threw Thousands of Kids in Detention, Many For Longer Than Court-Prescribed Limit
Former immigration staffers argue ICE is choosing to detain families for prolonged periods to speed deportations and compel them to leave.
The Marshall Project's analysis of ICE data obtained by the Deportation Data Project found the Trump administrationโs revival of family detention has swept thousands of children into ICE custody. At least 3,800 children under age 18, including 20 infants, have been booked since Trump took office.

Residents Iโve spoken to are furious and want the agents out of their city. Iโve seen tense encounters in grocery story parking lots, housing developments, and neighborhoods. I've covered unrest around the world and the anger among protesters here is among the most intense I've ever experienced.

Iโve been in Minneapolis the last few days reporting on the ICE raids happening across the city. This morning federal agents shot and killed a man, identified by the AP as Alex Pretti. This marks the third shooting by federal agents since Operation Metro Surge started in Minnesota last month.

Her Mental Health Treatment Was Helping. Thatโs Why Insurance Cut Off Her Coverage.
Providers, patients and even some federal judges say progress-based insurance denials harm patients at key moments of mental health treatment.
โYou have made progress.โ
โYou are not a danger to yourself or others.โ
The denial letter from Geneva Mooreโs insurer directly contradicted her therapistโs words. Cut off from her treatment program, Moore slid into a monthslong downward spiral.

Her Mental Health Treatment Was Helping. Thatโs Why Insurance Cut Off Her Coverage.
Providers, patients and even some federal judges say progress-based insurance denials harm patients at key moments of mental health treatment.
Insurers sometimes deny coverage citing lack of progress, labeling patientsโ conditions as chronic.
Yet if they do make progress, insurers have also used that to argue patients no longer need treatment.
Doctors are left to walk a tightrope.
