New lab preprint! We know that FGF signaling drives ER+ breast cancer after treatment. Here, we asked how. ETV4, induced by Fgf1, does a lot in vitro but is only necessary (not sufficient) in vivo. Could it reflect high Fgf1 and indicate pending ER+ tumor therapy resistance in obesity?

Our new preprint is out! We previously reported fewer subcutaneous adipocyte progenitors in obese female mice after sustained tamoxifen treatment. Here we show that tamoxifen suppresses Wnt family member Wisp2/Ccn5 to block estrogen's protection of these cells. Happy Holidays π

Does anyone want to collaborate on a #breastcancer #obesity #immune project who has a PhenoCycler or can analyze more than 7 protein markers per slide at once? I ran into a road block. #Science

Thank you for submitting your Letter of Intent (LOI) to CZI. We appreciate your interest in our work.
CZI has decided not to continue with the second round of its Science Diversity Leadership Awards. We are committed to supporting groundbreaking research that advances the frontiers of scientific knowledge in pursuit of our mission to cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of the century. We will provide information on future funding opportunities.
We look forward to staying in touch.
Bil Clemons, Program Officer, CZI
Pretty sad. Just got the email that CZI is canceling the second round of Diversity Leadership Awards. Private industry will definitely not fill the hole that NIH and NSF are leaving. π’π

A few days ago my neighbor said she was furious but wasn't sure yet what to do. I told her there have to be lines or waves of resistance and when the group ahead of her needed a break, she can take over and will have learned more by then. A relay is the perfect analogy.

I'm in a red state (I'm not a republican) and it is terrifying here now. We feel helpless but some are speaking out as best we can. I wake up crying at night worried about my family's future but also about our country. It's gutting to see these men destroy our global relationships, all for power π

This is Ayla, named after my favorite book character (The Clan of the Cave Bear). She swims every day, no matter what. It's 57 degrees now, and the pool is frigid, but she just swam. Fitting, because Ayla in the book was famous for her daily swims, even breaking ice to get in #samandayla
