The money the US spends on defence is as representative of its effectiveness as the money the US spends on health care with the outcomes it delivers

Its time for Parliament to recognise gambling's damage to health With gambling advertising a normalised part of footy culture, it's time to shed light on an issue the government is unwilling to address.

Tonight Carlton and the Swans will kick off the third AFL season since the Murphy report unanimously recommended a comprehensive ban on gambling ads.

Once again, our screens and stadia will be polluted with wall-to-wall gambling advertising, a normalised part of sporting culture in Australia.

My conspicuous theory is that Russia organised October 7 in Israel/Gaza to distract the world from Ukraine. (Just to add to the list)

I don't understand why the relevant government departments would comply with the president against a ruling by SCOTUS. Surely they (the employees) are breaking the law collecting the tariffs?

Regardless the relevant authorities should immediately stop collecting the money

Australians are the world’s biggest losers when it comes to gambling. It’s a predatory system - the industry’s business model depends on people losing.

What makes it even more disturbing is the ongoing acceptance of donations, gifts & perks from gambling companies by some MPs & Senators.

Voter cheating, or electoral fraud, is extremely rare in the USA

Only 39 cases of voter fraud were ID'd in a recent election, a mere 0.000039% of over 100 million ballots cast

Medical Research Matters

Right now, the Government is starving medical research of full funding, even as it claims that science and research are national priorities. If our leaders truly value science as much as they say, then they must back their words with actionβ€”and fund it properly.

Join the campaign!

Toyota found to be largest auto industry funder of climate deniers in US A new report shows Toyota donated more money to climate denying Congressional candidates than other automakers, and the gap is increasing.

Toyota has repeatedly ranked as one of the strongest funders of pro-pollution, anti-EV, and climate denying propaganda in the world, a new report reveals its growing interest in seeding anti-science attitudes in US Congress, through political bribes to climate deniers.

I'm an Australian and the really big difference is that it places the obligation on the government to make it easy. We can 'prepoll' 10!days before, do a postal vote, polling places in cities are typically less than 1.5 miles between them, they are always held on a Saturday etc.

Make voting compulsory! ( perhaps a small fine for a first offence). You can spoil your ballot if you really want to abstain, but it is a responsibility that is placed upon the individual when they become a citizen of age

Um engineer here with a small business. We have 1 EV and 1 diesel ute in the driveway. As far as I am aware the first full EV ute went on sale in Australia just this month. I have been waiting for an EV ute for work for ages (not a hybrid but full EV)

The factories of today are open plan offices. People in professions like Engineering are actually the "information age factory fodder". These people perceived themselves to be part of the leadership team, whereas they are actually just workers. This is part of the misunderstanding of the system

The share of the population living in extreme poverty is now higher in the United States than in China.

When will more people realise that the US is only a democracy in name, not in action?

It merely dances to the tune of the top 1%.

Affordability Key to Successful Energy Transition: Report Affordability is the key to ensuring public confidence and ongoing community support for the energy transition, which is now delicately balanced, according to the Chief Executive Officers of Australia...

In a report released today, the AEC again confirms that it supports net zero 'on the premise that the least cost, lowest impact pathway is an energy system dominated by renewables.

To be honest I am amazed at how powerless US federal workers are. They have to work without pay. If they strike they are sacked and black banned for life. This is just wrong. Forced to work without pay is slavery. If they eventually get paid there is no penalty on the govt for missing payments
