The misinformation effect and its associated memory biases, and lashon hara, are fascinating because look around you. It's basically the foundation of social media, its business model.
That was fantastic! Reading it as a metaphor for AI & the world right now & thatβs the issue.
'And so began Tortoiseβs quest to know everything once and for all.'
Loved this! ππ

This reminds me of something Toni Morrison wrote.
Hell to the yeah. π₯
Milo standing on the ground, while a boy of similar height hovers above him
"Isn't it beautiful?" gasped Milo.
"Oh, I don't know," answered a strange voice. "It's all in the way you look at things."
"I beg your pardon?" said Milo, for he didn't see who had spoken.
"I said it's all in how you look at things," repeated the voice.

This is true. Plus itβs tasty, so that helps reduce stress, Iβd imagine.
I love that people are still doing normal stuff & also yum!
Inspired by my Korean class this morning, I prepared Tteokbokki for my friend who's arriving tonight and some French λΉ΅ (actually, savoury cake) for another friend's birthday tomorrow π©βπ³π©βπ³
Draft of a woodcarved creature. for now you can see the start of a mumified body emerge from the wood. It is very early in the process
This is the start of a new work in progress thread.
It will not be a creature of mine this time, but one from @slimyswampghost.bsky.social bestiary π
I'm so excited about this project !

But ours is no longer a professional degree. I forget my place. Apologies.
Students came to me with good theoretical knowledge, including working through hypotheticals. AI contributes nothing that wasnβt already there.
Those same students were thrown a bit when real cases with real people didnβt unfold as easily as hypotheticals. AI contributes nothing here.
As someone whoβs trained interns & clinical fellows, I donβt care what you put out there to βmirror real professional workβ βnothing mirrors real professional work as well as real professional work (with support).
Especially in professions involving work with people.
I work in state government and the exec team says this incessantly.
We have to be using AI because itβs inevitable. We have to use it or weβll fall behind.
Fall behind what? Weβre state government. We could be using pencil and paper and still exist.
I remember writing a grant for a student of mine to get access to medical services during school closures that the parents didnβt know were available. It was approved. Would AI do that?
Part of LLMs, etc. being unleashed on everything feels like a way to engage in more gatekeeping put like that. π€
Iβm old enough to remember working online during school closures when many people insisted they didnβt have the expertise to do what a teacher does.
Fast forward to now, when apparently itβs not that complicated & anyone can do it with the assistance of edtech that isnβt required to be accurate.

There is such an easy route that Uni's are failing to take. Lead with culture change. Stop spamming us about the new software and partnerships. Stop the endless workshops in the teaching and learning centers. Start talking about what learning is and when these products help or hurt this process.
βPerhaps you might allow Rhyme and Reason to return,β said Milo softly.
βHow nice that would be,β said Azaz, straightening up and adjusting his crown. βEven if they were a bother at times, things always went so well when they were here.β
Daylight Savings is actually totally anodyne. The reason it's so objectionable is because twice a year we get reminded that our social form would rather mess with our sleep than shift work hours so that we could have both the sleep and sunlight after working hours.
Everyone please appreciate the museum of the Irish Language that my definitely-not-autistic dad is setting up: ansugan.ie
I am quite suspicious of the popularity of post-data multiverse analysis. If we can have all those specifications identified, why not run corresponding simulations ahead of data collection to pressure-test the experimental design & analytical procedures so we can perform the most informative study?
