The relatively poor but still positive job growth in 2024 may have affected how people felt about the economy and led to the election outcome. Bad timing, and it made everything worse.

The discontinuity is visible in that bar graph, reflecting the economic uncertainty produced by taking a chainsaw to the federal government and contractors, ignoring laws that the executive branch is required to carry out, deporting key workers, and imposing constantly changing arbitrary tariffs.

If you took the dates off this plot, you could have a pretty good chance of guessing correctly when the administration changed.

I can't imagine how hearing this statement feels for someone who lost their loved one more than 6 months into this war.
