Personally I think it even goes a layer deeper. Walter is a mirror. He’s a monster but delicately framed so that you do empathize and see him as cool at moments, you also recognize he’s a monster and reckon with what that makes you feel. Can hate how the audience read it, but it doesn’t lack depth.
