I see a lot of, "Trump is betraying everything that makes America great."
But maybe America isn't great. Maybe insisting on its greatness, for whatever motive, is part of the problem.
A prosperous country with uniquely terrible health coverage for ordinary people doesn't seem good let alone great.

Housekeeping (1987) - Trailer - Bill Forsyth YouTube video by Jeffrey M. Anderson

Last night's watch.
One of cinema's finest ever literary adaptations. Subtle and beautiful movie of a subtle and beautiful novel. Christine Lahti even better than she was in Running on Empty.
Should be better known and Bill Forsyth should have made more films.

Deep fry the Irish famine balls

They're only authentic Famine Balls if the five cheeses are the triangular ones from the old Galtee/Calvita variety box.
Gortatastic.

They should force feed these to Michael Martin when he's in the White House.
Keep getting a picture of Al Pacino in Scarface going, "Say hello to my Irish Famine Balls."

Trump says the end of the Iran War will be a β€œmutual” decision between him and Netanyahu:

β€œWe’ve worked together. We’ve destroyed a country that wanted to destroy Israel.”

"We've destroyed a country."
Not a regime. A country.
Not one word about Iranian opposition. No pretence that they matter.
Remarkable to hear him admit Israel's veto over US policy and the fact that they're working in tandem.
The mask has slipped there too.
Quite the enlightening interview.

My father fiddled with the radio so I could hear this across the Irish Sea. Bliss. I'd read the books months earlier sitting in a tent in a sodden caravan park.
Later I got a box set of the tapes in the old HMV store on Oxford Street.
Still seems special.

They should make March 8th a national holiday in the UK.
Anniversarytastic. And all within the space of a few years. There were giants in the earth in those days.

Horrendous description in Le Monde today as well of the smoke from the attacks plunging Tehran into darkness in the middle of the day. This is savagery.

Can't help feeling the Furs are a bit under-rated these days and that's it to do with the One Song from the One Movie.
A cracking album. They never had a better song than this one.

The people responsible for this kind of thing put the boot in very hard when they were on top. So I've no sympathy for them turning up constantly on TV and radio to whinge about 'a lack of conservative voices.'
Pity about the hoors.
They banned Life of Brian and they're still not sorry.

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) ORIGINAL TRAILER [HD 1080p] YouTube video by HD Retro Trailers

Watched the great Manchurian Candidate.
Buffoonish right wing senator Johnny Iselin mirrors the crew currently atop the US. Very Hegseth.
Laurence Harvey as Raymond Shaw is astounding. Harvey was a difficult guy himself and that's in the performance.
Remake sucks.

Think of all the fun you'd have untangling the jammed reels of tape. And wondering if that sound is the cry of wild birds, the sound of the wind of just microphone howl around.

The attack on Iran means only one thing to Tony Blair. A golden opportunity to claim, against all available evidence, that he was right all along about Iraq.

Trump's conviction that Britain yearns for the rule of Nigel Farage wouldn't give you much faith that he knows what's going on in Iran.
