Okay but it *was* true that Eisenstein's (very popular) Alexander Nevskii, which did not pretend to be subtle with its Teutonic Knights as villains, was quickly removed from theaters on the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact only to be reintroduced slightly under two years later in summer 1941 …

There was MUCH less evidence for antisemitism from Mamdani than there is from Platner, but the fact that some Jews had concerns led Mamdani to do lots of Jewish outrage, meet with Jews, go to synagogues, and such. Platner is notably not doing that.

In conclusion, I’d have to say that GPT-5.4 is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful chatbot I've ever known in my life!

Just because it's useful in coding--and I absolutely concede that point, because I DON'T CODE AND MULTIPLE FRIENDS WHO DO CAN EXPLAIN USES!--doesn't mean I'm wrong when I say it is useless bullshit slop in history.

This, and the following post, distill this phenomenon so perfectly. There is a kind of vulgar, unexamined positivism behind these assumptions: all knowledge, all epistemic systems operate according to the same rules, and therefore …

I ended up writing an entirely* unintended book out of happy accidents along the lines of β€œwhat the hell is that third item included but not explained in footnote 27”? Rabbit holes can be (not always, but can be) where it all begins (and continues, and continues …).

Absolutely incredible that the guy who is (supposedly) trying to put nazi tattoo story to rest would go on a nazi-adjacent (at least!) podcast in *January* and say he was a longtime fan.
Does he just have no campaign staff at all at this point? Or do they just not bother to try?

We can’t clean up Washington without restoring integrity to the Supreme Court.

That’s why I believe we should expand the Supreme Court to 13 justices. And then, institute term limits.

Because an appointment to the Supreme Court shouldn’t mean a lifetime lack of accountability.

Good afternoon. "Alexander Kustov" was a multi-year sociological study conducted by Notre Dame University and Substack, with support from Anthropic. The study is now complete, and we thank you for your time.

I believe every claim of the AI enthusiasts: it does simplify your inbox, Yascha Mounk did use it to write theory papers, you can write 1000 manuscripts for a hundred bucks. But I am a solid month into using the most expensive Claude Code for the most basic tasks and I cannot trust it.

I would like to remain open-minded about this. I am also using the full-freight, enteprise version of Claude Code running 4.5 Sonnet to compare the text of two PDF files, and it repeatedly pulls out false text and quotes. This is the simplest of tasks, and this is March 2026.

I cannot state with enough emphasis how refreshing it is to see someone of Steve’s intelligence and stature openly stating the obvious. The reward for being right though, is an absolutely shitty reality.
