You are very small & slow & I am training my cats to eat you; Tina Belcher, but without the kind loving parents. “I’m ok!” Never gives up her dead. Pushing around the weathervane Jesus. My cats have zero chill. “IT WAS BEANS!” “Is it about my cube?”

Does getting sick boost the immune system? Do young children have to get sick to improve their immune systems? Dr. Donald Vinh explains why some people seem to get sick more often that others.

"Let it rip" is not an effective public health / infectious disease strategy. My thoughts below.

Violence is defined by the World Health Organization in the WRVH as “the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation”.

Forced exposure to SARS-CoV-2 is violence.

If you’re speaking out against war but not wearing a mask in public, you’re missing the point.

A picture of two young looking cats with tabby and white markings, one wears a collar with a bell. The caption reads "The CMA is expected to call for easier access to cheaper medicines online"

I think you've stumbled on to a feline conspiracy here, those two "children" also apparently work for the Competition and Markets Authority

A colleague that gets it!

Excellent video explaining the abc’s of early childhood infections, and why getting a stack load of them, with maximum exposure methods is not good, and can be mitigated using simple measures.

Thank you!

Grammarly Is Offering ‘Expert’ AI Reviews From Your Favorite Authors—Dead or Alive The tool, offered by the recently-rebranded company Superhuman, gives feedback based on the work of famous dead and living writers—without their permission.

“Instead of producing what looks like a generic critique from a nameless LLM,” Wired reported last week, Expert Review “lists a number of real academics and authors available to weigh in on your text. To be clear: Those people have nothing to do with this process.”🤬

The immune system is not a muscle.

It is a cleansing fire.

It causes collateral damage.

It has a limited supply of fuel.

It can get out of control.

Don’t burn your whole house down every time by catching every disease without caution.

Grammarly declined my request to interview CEO Shishir Mehrotra today. But it told me that in response to criticisms, it will allow experts to opt out of the feature by emailing expertoptout@superhuman.com.

I've decided that instead of wasting my own time to see if Grammarly has stolen my name and writing for use their business, I'd just email them to opt out and make them waste some time cleaning up their own goddamn mess.

An excellent piece, and a good reminder of something my coworkers and I were talking about the other day: many of the things we're talking about are crimes if a person or company does them, actual named crimes, and laundering that criminality through AI shouldn't change that.

Great news. The UK Government has issued new guidance on ventilation in schools, including specifications on air cleaners.

We’re getting there.

There's also the fact that Rowling has been fairly explicit that the money she earns through Harry Potter she's putting into anti-trans lobbying efforts.

There's a difference, IMHO, between an artist with a shitty private life, and an artist using their money to fund regressive social change.

This. My university keeps wanting me to make a “syllabot,” an LLM-based chatbot my students can query about the syllabus. And all I can think about is all the resources being consumed so no one has to use Ctrl+F.

At the root of all our problems stands one travesty: politicians’ surrender to the super-rich | George Monbiot There are many excuses for failing to tax the ultra-wealthy. The truth is that governments don’t tackle the problem because they don’t want to, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It is THE fundamental problem. To survive and prosper we must make billionaires history. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

To restore democracy and create a fairer, safer, greener world, we need massive taxes on the ultra-rich. As in the 1940s. People get confused about this. The main purpose of such taxes is *not* to raise revenue. The point is to stop the few dominating the many. It's an essential democratic measure.
