"Arcade-y" is a good discripter. One of my first thoughts while playing was that the presentation, sound effects, and pacing felt very "black box" NES. Between Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Monkey Ball, and Smash; the GCN launch definitely had a vibe!

Pikmin 4 is the only Pikmin I really dived into before, but the levels in that game feel massive in comparison. But, you also have a "mount" and, essentially, unlimited time. Personally, I like the stress of feeling like I may screw up my entire run that Pikmin 1 brings.
I'm also suspecting that Pikmin is a very short game. I played for about two hours tonight and, considering you only have 30 in-game days, 1/3 of the way through. The areas are also smaller than I remember, but given the time restraints, I'm sure that's a good thing.
Pikmin 1 is really good! I never beat it and the last time I even tried was when it was originally released 25 years ago. I'm sure that the Switch version has some QoL improvements, but the core of the game still feels intact. Also, the Pikmin are idiots here compared to the Pikmin 4 Pikmin.
My intent tonight was to start replaying Final Fantasy VII for the first time since it's original release, but then I thought, "Maybe I'll just try out Pikmon 1 while I wait."
Well, guess who's waiting now (Spoiler: It's Final Fantasy VII).
I think there was an episode that they called him "Uncle Joey" once, as a joke, and everyone just clung on to it.
As a first time player of DKCRHD, Dixie distracting and it's clear her mechanic was not in mind when they designed these levels. Most of the time I felt like I was cheating when I got her.
Finished Donkey Kong Country Returns HD with all the KONG letters and levels done. Not perfect, but it's pretty damn good, especially in smaller bursts. Definitely feels like a Rare DKC. My biggest complaint is that I wish you could turn off Dixie Kong, who was added earlier this year.
Wow interesting! you can find out more here

I'm pretty sure "Geen" was christened as my Internet name at least 27 years ago, too. ๐
Probably not the time with component prices and supply being in the state that they are, but I'm still advocating for a Switch Lite sized "Steam Deck Mini" to play less intensive games on.
It's definitely a choice.
Was in the middle of a Fitness Boxing routine when my Switch 2 dock, I dunno, FROZE or something. Cost me 112 misses because I couldn't tell if I paused or not. Had to pull the power to reboot /the dock./ Kind of soured my night.
Every day, Mr. Bell.

The article trails off behind a pay wall, but I think I read enough...
I miss my Nokia brick and am often tempted to go back to a basic phone.
Changing the FOV on Demon Tides from 100 to 125 went from me wanting to vomit to thoroughly enjoying the game. That extra distance chased the dizzies away.
The real treasure was the friend we made along the way?
Platforming games I love that aren't Mario/Sonic:
A genre so close to my heart with so much nuance! These are the ones that have come to mind:
Rayman Origins
Sly Cooper
Wario Land VB
Prince of Persia Sands of Time
Banjo Kazooie
I will regret this list when I remember another dozen games.
I'm not overthinking it! You're overthinking it!
I was debating this for both DK & Wario! I'd argue that they are original series independent of Mario, especially DK, which holds very little in common with a Super Mario game.
I think the problem is "platformer" seems like a limited genre! I think platformer, I think "hop and bop," but that's not true for the majority of them. If I'm making a list of "top games were you jump around that don't include Mario/Sonic," that could suddenly mean so many! Yes, I'm overthinking it
Since I woke up I've been consumed with "What are the best platformers besides Mario & Sonic?" question.
I'm sure there are tons, I KNOW there are tons - but I'll be damned if I could mention some that are, ahem, jumping to mind.

I'm pretty sure the last "character" I played as was Shaman in Tetris Battle Gaiden...
33 years ago today, Star Fox took flight on the Super Famicom. ๐๐ Argonaut designed the Super FX chip and programmed the game alongside Nintendo EAD, delivering the first hardware-accelerated 3D game on a home console. Happy anniversary to a legend! โญ๐ฆ

I feel like the DS Zelda games also get forgotten. Phantom Hourglass is really good, but really good on a DS. It's perfect for small sessions and that hardware. I tried playing it on Wii U a while ago and, ugh, no thank you.
Spirit Tracks would be great if it didn't feel like a million hours.
Zelda is such a weird series, as it literally has some of my favorite games of all time and also games I can't muster up the interest to get more than a dungeon deep. The "Ocarina-likes" are easily my least favorite. I find all of them to be a bit of a slug, despite enjoying OoT & Wind Waker.
Top three Zelda games, huh?
