The Quiet Side and The Quiet Light paperbacks by Casey Blair from her Kickstarter.
Absolutely inhaled these over the last 28 hours. These are so fantastic, @caseyblair.bsky.social!
Super glad I read The Quiet Side first. It gave me some important context for The Quiet Light. The Quiet Light is a book for the times weβre living in and I loved how Wrath is a force for good (1/5)

After 500 years in stasis, Yora has gone to wash up, and Zan accidentally walks in on her after she's also taken her clothes off--fully naked and not embarrassed at being seen by him.
Zan... has some feelings about this. π Primarily about wanting him to be the ONLY one who sees her like this. π
When the dragon shifter mmc walks in on her when OOPS she's naked: an alt-POV bonus scene for The Quiet Light.

We have SIX DAYS to get this out of the Washington State Senate. NEXT TUESDAY is the legislative deadline to get bills out their house of origin.
If it doesn't pass by then, it likely dies till 2027.
Since farmworkers were written out of labor laws in 1937, we have to win at the state level.
3yo: Pluto is a good planet.
me: THAT'S RIGHT PLUTO *IS* A GOOD PLANET never forget β

but today @djangowexler.bsky.social sang it to her the traditional way and she paid attention
so now she just keeps talking about the little orgy and I am NOT correcting her, just going to laugh about this forever π€£π€£
"the little Lord Je" --> "the little orgy"
this is a book that plays carols and the battery is dying, which is why it was making strange noises
most of the book is like, jingle bells, you know? so when I sing this for her, I sub the name of one of our cats π
Picture of illustrated page with lyrics to Away in a Manger. Casey's finger points to the words "the little Lord Je" covering up the 'sus' part of 'Jesus'.
3yo: The little orgy was making a noise.
ME: the what now
3: Yes, the little orgy!
ME:
3: Come on, I will show you the little orgy in my book!
ME: yes, please show me which of your books has the little orgy
3yo takes out a book and turns to this page, at which point I am crying with laughter:
Access to anime, which was hugely formative storytelling for me, and was incredibly hard to get before the internet. Connecting with the kind of nerds who *got* me, when the people around me very much didn't.
Not all the tech is an improvement for sure! But I'd say there are some for sure.
Or meeting someone, and something comes up, you can't find each other? I can call them. I used to have to call collect to TRY to reach my mom if some school schedule thing changed, and sometimes it just...wouldn't work, and I wouldn't have enough change to try again
Ok a lot of the comparisons I probably can't comment on then because of where tech was at when I grew up, but there are definitely things I would still count as wins. Like omg the stress of figuring out how to get to someone's house using a Thomas map before Google, and if you missed a step... dire
Also depends what you count as technology, because I would not want to write novels by hand haha.
I can meet and keep in touch with friends way more easily! And learning is so accessible. Like, I remember when if our Encarta discs didn't have some subject and my parents couldn't take me to the library, I just couldn't answer questions.
Social media though...unclear lol
