Tonight RTE 1 9.30 is the first episode of new series Hooked - How Addiction Hijacks your Brain. Thank you to our contributors for their faith in the project and sharing their experiences, esp Dr. Brian Pennie who leads this series in a bid to demystify addiction. Producer @aoifestokes.bsky.social

Awful listening to how Stephen Donnelly’s family endured such personal harassment at home. Banging on his children’s windows. No one in public office should experience that. Disgraceful. @rteradio1.bsky.social

Anyone in Galway and surrounds who wants to hang out with three silly German girls (19/20) who accidentally booked themselves into a rural house an hour outside Galway near kilcolgan and have no car?! Could be a fun weekend being a friendly accidental tour guide? No murderers need apply.

I am available to work on the new Labyrinth in any role. Just putting it out there.

All safe and well here. In the howling wind one of our trees was damaged. It’s probably going to have to come down. It’s been there for probably 50 or more years and was some sort of cherry blossom type tree that bloomed early and always cheered me up. I need to find out what it was so I can replace

Quite shocked that David Lynch has died. One of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. I loved his work in my youth. So strange, brave and experimental. He seemed young still… RIP.

Nollaig shona to anyone having a tense one, a disappointing one, a sad one, or a lonely one. It'll pass. It always does. πŸ’™

I can’t believe Smyths don’t warn you that everything has a barcode and your name on it stuck unnoticeably on all the toys. Feckkkkk! All under wrapping now. It’s 1am…. Do I go fix it?!!!

The Christmas is ruined. I can’t find crackers. My children will never speak to me again.

Absolute apocalyptic scenes in Dunnes over the veg. Jesus people calm down! It’s just dinner on one day of the year. Do we ever learn? (I got some veg myself then just in case)

Grianstad an Geimhridh. A time when Mother Nature reminds us that nothing stays the same. Change is inevitable.
So if you are in a good place - be grateful.
And if you are finding life tough, hang on, change will come.
It is in the mid winter darkness that we turn back towards the light.

I’m half way through final Ep of Black Doves and the stress I’m feeling that Keira Knightley hasn’t done her Santa shopping is too much for me.

I can’t get this little girl and her poor Mum out of my mind the past couple of days. The details of the case emerging are haunting and horrifying. That Mum is going to need so much support.

The wonderful face of a very brave girl, Malika (8), who died while trying to protect her mother from a violent attack in their home in New Ross, Co Wexford. No child should ever have to experience violence and abuse nor lose their precious lives in such an awful way.

I’m in deep Santa shit here. I thought the robot tomato request last year was complex (we had to make it) but now trying to decipher a badly written list of PokΓ©mon cards which it turns out are in the region of 80 quid each. I’m so far out of my depth. Six year old has encyclopaedic knowledge.

This quote by Calvin Pryluck has always guided me. β€œUltimately, we are all outsiders in the lives of others. We can take our gear and go home; they have to continue their lives where they are.”

Seek it out! It’s very thought provoking. What happens to the contributors to our documentaries in the aftermath of the production and distribution?

In my final Ethics lecture with my lovely small group in TCD. We’ve had such great discussions I feel I got a lot of clarity about my own practice out of our weekly classes myself. Wrapping up with a clip from the brilliant film Subject which is essential viewing for all documentary makers.

A filmmaker friend just texted that his camera man had a wrap stolen out of his mouth and he could taste the sea from his beak! I’m glad my encounter wasn’t so intimate!!!

Apparently it’s a common Dublin experience. One of my students has even made a little documentary about it!

I didn’t think my first real foray into posting here would be about seagulls but here we are. This morning I got β€œmugged” by a seagull. Whacked me over the head and stole my croissant out of my hand. Didn’t know what had happened but then realised it was quite entertaining for all around me.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s better to put the money away each year. Our price hike for family cover is over 30% over last few years. Plus a big surcharge for one of us not having insurance for a while. Eye watering cost. Fear makes me keep it but not sure it’s ever going to make a difference.

Do I need another social media platform? I do not. But I need to quit twitter. Hard to find all those I used to follow. I had such lovely interactions there for years and remember the first weeks on Twitter making friends but it’s too toxic now. Hopefully here is better moderated.
