In light of today’s conversation on academic accommodations, I’m going to revive a thread lost to time when I deleted my Twitter profile.

It’s about a bunch of academic accommodations that instructors can offer in lieu of an extension on an assignment. 🧵

We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

this is the thing.
I DONT CARE if *some* students have managed to get accommodations by allegedly "gaming the system" or "doctor shopping"
I DON'T CARE.
Because my experience tells me how hard it is to be disabled in higher ed, as both a disabled student, and disabled faculty member now.

#kidlitchat This quarter I took on a new teaching role at a new school, realized it maybe wasn’t the right fit for me, and am now exploring other options. Due to personal events (moving, evaluations for my daughter), I’ve done no research this quarter but am excited to begin new projects in Q1.

Absolutely livid to have my tax dollars paying for all of this instead of libraries, environmental protection, feeding children, due process, medical research, teachers, history, human rights, higher education accessibility, health care, poetry, clean water, safe food, art, and beauty.

writing in APA this week has been an interesting experience. on one hand, i've read SO MUCH on queer YAL. on the other hand, i feel like i've said SO LITTLE because of my methods & lit review sections.

Screaming a little that my grad prof just said "I grade based on a feeling" and "I'm not trained to teach" when a student asked about the grading system and how they can improve their grade in the class.

Any university that voluntarily shutters a DEI program, office or personnel “Because of Trumps Executive Order” is making a PR decision. Not a legal one.

Trumps EO does not change anti discrimination law. If anything, the EO is unlawful.

Universities should treat it that way.
