Immersed in Starlight
A stunning trip through the cosmos at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
Last night, I was wowed by the stunning IMMERSED IN STARLIGHT experience at Bristol Museum featuring the stellar photography of Lee Pullen. Profoundly moving images of nebulae and galaxies, all taken from a garden in glorious #bristol.

Ah yes. What Iβve seen of Lower Decks has been superb. Need to get back to it.

Iβve flipped flopped on so much modern Trek. Discovery largely left me cold, and Strange New Worlds has been great but Iβve wanted Trek to look forward rather than back for so long. This show is the first one that has really clicked for me in the last decade or so.

True. And history is replete with it. I guess the word has a negative connotation for me that I donβt specifically see in this show. As I said, everyone is different, and everyone sees different things in art and entertainment, which is exactly the way it should be.

Yup. Season 2 is confirmed. Beyond that, I guess weβll have to wait and see. I think a lot of the reporting on the break in productions is click baiting, but if there is a gap then we also have 60 years of shows and films to revisit.

Well, I think on that weβll just have to agree to differ. To me, it looks like storytelling.

Theyβve just wrapped filming on season 2 I think? Beyond that I reckon there will be more Star Trek. There have been gaps in productions before and Iβm sure there will be again, plus comics, books and so on.

This iteration doesnβt feel particularly propaganda-led to me, just like itβs reflecting aspects of contemporary culture β which the franchise has always done. Iβm sure there were people watching TOS at the time who thought it was pushing a particular worldview. Same in the 80s. Same in the 90s.

Not everything can unfortunately. Some Trek series have left me cold. Itβs a form of IDIC, I guess.

Personally, I feel that this is the most Trek series in terms of philosophy and outlook for years, something actually looking forward rather than being a prequel β albeit one with plenty of callbacks. As a guy in my 50s, Iβm not the target demographic, but, boy, am I loving it.

I think the thing is that this is only one βflavourβ of Star Trek. The franchise has constantly changed and adapted. Some have been to my taste, others havenβt been, but the great thing is that thereβs usually something else on the horizon.

As for how only older people are only concerned with morality, Iβm not getting that read from it personally. Certainly, the older characters are genuinely wiser, although some of them make some pretty big mistakes along the way.

I think, in the long run, all the younger characters realise that if they muck around they get their arses kicked β a trope across all school type shows (and in real life too!) Also, Iβve known a few starship captains who were irresponsible in their lives.

Daniel Radcliffe refusing to wear Alyssa Liu's gold medal because it feels like "stolen valour" is the most Daniel Radcliffe thing that Daniel Radcliffe has ever done. What a superstar.

I spent enough time being bullied for liking things like Star Trek & Star Wars as a kid. Thereβs no way Iβm going to be bullied by people claiming theyβre Star Trek or Star Wars fans as a 52-year-old man now. Come at me & youβll get blocked and ignored β while Iβll be over here enjoying what I love.

Oh, I ignore those ranting and raving and make up my own mind. If I like something I talk about it. If I donβt, I move on to something more to my liking. Thereβs too my energy wasted on light and fury in the real world, let alone my escapism!
