New study on drug combination for advanced sarcoma.
Researchers tested cabozantinib plus temozolomide in 72 patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma.

By providing seed funding for translational science, SFA helps researchers take bold, high-risk ideas from concept to discovery. This turns promising science into the preliminary data that opens doors to federal funding and, ultimately, better therapies for patients who urgently need new options.
Support from SFA enabled Dr. Karen Pollok, PhD, to test a promising combination therapy for osteosarcoma that has spread or no longer responds to standard treatments. Because these drugs are already used in other cancers, this research could accelerate safer, more effective treatments.
Sarcoma represents about 1% of adult cancers and, like many rare cancers, faces delayed diagnoses, limited treatment options, and less research funding.

Today is Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day. We honor every person impacted by this diagnosis. Chondrosarcomas are a specific type of bone sarcoma that most often affects adults, and are most likely to develop in the joints, pelvis, or long bones.
The Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act is now law, accelerating the development of treatments for children with cancer and other rare diseases.
SFA has proudly supported this bill, and we are thrilled to see this critical legislation finally cross the finish line.

Jordan’s Dream Fund was established in 2017 in memory of 28-year-old Jordan Andrew Singer, a patient with epithelioid sarcoma. This program, in partnership with Jordan’s Dream Fund, helps cover out-of-pocket expenses for sarcoma patients participating in clinical trials.

SFA is accepting applications for the 2026 Last Mile Sarcoma Research Award. This one-year, $150,000 grant supports sarcoma researchers seeking to strengthen the resubmission of R01 or equivalent proposals to advance understanding and treatment of sarcoma. Applications are due by 2/2/2026, at 5 pm.
