I was on the road a lot on my last trip and wound up using my data a bit, so it will add up if you’re there for more than a week, but still, the ease of it is kind of astonishing. You get off the plane, turn your phone on, and it works just like it does at home.
Verizon charges me $12 a day for international roaming and data but only if I actually use it within a 24 hour period. So when I got stuck in Australia for an extra week (Covid) and was on wifi the whole time, it didn’t trigger the charges until I left the hotel on the last day and summoned an uber.
Depending on your carrier and your needs, your provider may already be able to switch to an international service for a reasonable price.
