I am not sure how “distraction from the Epstein files” became such a common refrain for anything this administration does. Everything they do is strategic, intentional harm for its own sake. The “distraction” from one thing to another is just collateral damage.

What "it's a distraction" people fundamentally need to understand about fascism is that fascism's entire mode of operation is diverting popular anger/anxiety/despair into channels of violence against the Other (both internal and external).
