Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia. Mystery, adventure, scavenger hunts, Boston, karaoke, plucky characters, banter.
Do you hate winter or do you hate the system that expects you to treat every day of the year the same way, ignoring cycles of nature?
New MUNA single thank god
It’s twizzle time, baby
I do think people are not having it. His DC voicemail was full when I called yesterday which is rare. Called the Hartford office to say what he’s saying isn’t nearly enough!
Starstruck has a couple!
Remembered Starstruck starts on NYE so naturally am rewatching for the zillionth time
Really didn’t need anything to make this Survivor finale take longer than it already will.
Thank you all for organizing!!
Oh jeez, I just noticed I have a typo. The book was of course written by the wonderful Mariko Tamaki.
Back After This book cover
Okay, day 10, last #LibFaves25 of this year is BACK AFTER THIS by Linda Holmes. I never met a Linda Holmes book I didn’t love. Such charming characters and an irresistible premise. Plus a big goofy dog? Come on. I was also glad to have her narrate the audiobook as I love her voice on PCHH
This Place Kills Me book cover
Ack! I missed #LibFaves25 day 9 yesterday! My pick was THIS PLACE KILLS ME by Marino Tamaki and Nicole Goux. I loved the combination of the art style and boarding school mystery. Gloomy and emotional but the graphic novel format keeps the pace up.
The Phoenix Pencil Company book cover
My day 8 #LibFaves25 title is THE PHOENIX PENCIL COMPANY by Allison King. A stellar magical realism historical fiction intergenerational tale. Drawn in by thorough world building, I became so invested in every relationship in this story. And another hat tip to @libro.fm’s librarian program!
Candle Island book cover
It is day 7 of #LibFaves25 and my book for today is Candle Island by Lauren Wolk. I adore the lived in worlds that she creates. I read this in one sitting on vacation which is an ideal way to read it.
Oh, this is another one I have to shout out @libro.fm for! Their librarian program accounts for probably a third of my books read this year.
The Teacher of Nomad Land book cover
For day 6 of #LibFaves25 my pick is The Teacher of Nomad Land by Daniel Nayeri. If I was still in a public library this would be a new Swiss army knife recommendation, it has so many appeal factors. So many kids will fall in love with this story. A WWII story that feels unique.
Thank you to @libro.fm and their librarian program for the audiobook! Expertly narrated by the author!
The Leaving Room book cover
Day 5 of #LibFaves25 is THE LEAVING ROOM by Amber McBride. Novels in verse are outside my wheelhouse but I found myself swept up in the beautiful language and imagery. Maybe audio is the way to go for verse novels? And she totally stuck the landing with sort of a tricky ending!
Actress of a Certain Age book cover
My day 4 pick for #LibFaves25 is ACTRESS OF A CERTAIN AGE by Jeff Hiller. A warm and funny memoir and an absolutely top notch audiobook. I was lucky enough to see Jeff Hiller speak at a library event and he is charming and genuine and a brilliant storyteller.
Realizing I should have included more of a blurb. Grief but make it funny! Complicated interpersonal relationships! London! Some of the best arty jobs for characters I’ve ever read! Everybody is right AND everybody is wrong scenarios!
Realizing a day late I should have done more of a blurb. Lesbian gothic historical fiction! Real ghosts vs metaphorical ghosts! Shipwrecks! Cold weather! Snowed in at a spooky hotel! The threat of nuclear war! Explorations of faith and community!
Scarlet Morning book cover
On the third day of #LibFaves25 my true love gave to me SCARLET MORNING by ND Stevenson! Immersive world building, funny and lovable characters, thrilling adventure, and instant classic illustrations!
The book cover for The Salvage
Day 2 of #LibFaves25! My pick for today is THE SALVAGE by Anbara Salam.
The book cover for Loved One
My #LibFaves25 pick for the day is LOVED ONE by Aisha Muharrar.
It’s my favorite day for posting! Happy parade, people!
And of course now they have added showtimes 15 minutes from me on the weekend. I guess I’ll have to go again.
Despite the crowd, of course the movie rules.
Drove over an hour to another state to see Wake Up Dead Man in theater and there was a group of people that talked through the first hour! Like, damn dudes, it’s gonna be on Netflix in two weeks you couldn’t wait and talk through it at home?
