It's not entirely true, but it is based in truth. Most of the scary scenes are hallucinations, induced by the bokor, from the point of view of the protagonist. If you look at it from the right point of view, you can see that nothing in this film is truly supernatural. Just drugs, mainly.

I don't WANT to believe those are the only reasons, but I'm really having a hard time coming up with another good reason why someone would sign up to kill people in other countries for money on behalf of billionaires, KNOWING that the government IS going to fuck you over when they're done with you.

Sadly, I've come up with a few answers that I don't like.

1. Some join because they WANT to kill & hurt people.
2. Some join because they're not able to do the ethical math.
3. Some join out of desperation for money.
4. Some have a warped sense of patriotism that makes them ignore facts.

I've long wondered why people are unwise enough to sign up for military service when there is such an INCREDIBLY long history of the government tossing them aside when they're done with them.

Why fight for an entity like that? Why die or suffer crippling injuries for wealthy bastards who hate you?

Why is it ALWAYS the people who draw manga/anime-style -- The most incredibly rip-off, unoriginal, stolen-from-other-artists style of art-- Who are on this bandwagon?

Also, you can't complain about AI stealing things and then steal a panel from Batman to make a point about AI stealing things.
