Relevant every hiring cycle: Bill Walsh on the dynamic between owners, GMs and coaches. (And even if itβs not 100% the case, definitely truth in there.)

Also Cignetti just made every other coachβs job exponentially harder
I donβt care if youβre Dr. Faustus, winning a national title at Indiana is just unbelievable. Obviously the world has changed, but Cignetti had a top-to-bottom plan (mostly laid out in his opening press conference) and executed it. Just wild.
he ain't lie
It was a weird read to throw thatβ¦. But honestly if the ball is out in front itβs still probably 6 points
CFB championship game is stressfulβ¦ so itβs a good time to buy some Girl Scout cookies (for a good cause π) digitalcookie.girlscouts.org/scout/cather...
Just like you drew it up
hmmm
Meanwhile - at least anecdotally, with some notable exceptions - many of the best offenses in CFB are coached by old hats, who bring more wisdom and experience than innovation (even if many started as innovators). Fascinating times!
The other datapoint is just relative age of the hotshots - where have ye gone, ye visor wearing offensive coordinator? The NFL has a lot of young playcallers and head coaches, with many of the best being equally comfortable with βNFL styleβ detail, tactics and rigor and βcollege styleβ innovation
Plus as the article touched on, βcool playsβ are not enough for a sustained advantage, as they get copied and synthesized almost instantly now. (Hello internet.)
These βstructuralβ changes tend to bubble up from the lower levels - the kind of quirky randomness that bubbles up from football federalism across countless colleges and high schools, vs the synthesis and systematic professionalism of the pros.
In short I think the NFL is ahead, in part because we are in a very tactical phase of football strategy where itβs the details, matchups and minutiae that are the difference (where the NFL will always lead given resources, talent and time), not the big βstructuralβ evolutions.
Enjoyed talking to the @wsj.com about the state of strategy and tactics in college football (which are, in my view, in very different places now than what has been the case over the last 25 or so years). www.wsj.com/sports/footb...
Crowdsourcing: Who are the best coaches (or potentially GMs) at building/rebuilding teams and programs? What are the throughlines (particularly the behind the scenes stuff), and any good resources/articles/interviews? Somewhat sports agnostic but focus on long term builds
Fullback is Rick Ross on Devil in a New Dress
Iβm generally blown away by what some of the AI/LLMs can do, but then I ask it to create βRobot and Dinosaur themedβ pre-K worksheets, and it gleefully tells me it has completed my requested task β¦
Well this has been a heck of a basketball series. Knicks fans definitely like

I kind of went full circle this draft cycle and I (on balance) like Shadeur more than Jaxson Dart (itβs a rough class, as we know) though I actually think Dart is a better fit for Daboll/Giants because of the athleticism.
Itβs almost 11pm and there are still nine picks to go in the first round. By 2035 the first round of the NFL draft will be conducted over the course of 32 days with one pick per day
honestly we would all benefit if everyone thought a bit more about how we could be more like paddington (including about how marmalade is delicious)

I donβt think field goals are going to get it done for Georgia in this one
Well that was a new one
In particular, the Chiefs have been trying to double Phillyβs interior of its defensive line and left its tackles one-on-one and they have been getting smoked
Shades of the Tampa Bay Super Bowl where the Chiefs canβt handle the Eagles front
Itβs Girl Scout cookie time! (Note - this is the last year for SβMores.) I know someone who would really appreciate the support.
