Children are being tear-gassed and deported all over the US. Where is the outrage and resistance from societies like SRCD, all the fancy US based centres and institutes that claim to be advocates for child development and who have been lecturing the rest of the world for decades??? Crickets. Cowards
I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...
Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

Excited to announce that I started as an Assistant Professor at Tulaneβs Psychology Department! Made it to the beautiful New Orleans & enjoying the oak trees! Recruiting PhD students through the Brain, Cognition & Dev Science area (deadline Dec 1). Please share widely & contact me with questions!
I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administrationβs racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.
My lab has an open post-doc position!
We will begin reviewing applications as they come in.
The post-doc will work with a vibrant research team at Penn State in the Department of Psychology and the Child Study Center.

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."
Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.
Ethical violation as POLICY.
Dear Tenured Facility,
Over the past 100 days my career trajectory has turned into a question mark. At best, the TT job market just got even crazier, at worst there wonβt be research career options in the US when I finish my PhD. It took me a while to find my path and I love being a scientist. 1/x
I've already had two federal grants terminated and face a 33% pay cut due to future terminations. It's painful, but not as painful as the conversations I'm having every day with brilliant trainees in graduate school and postdoctoral positions who see little future for themselves in US science.
No need to stop the 'brain rot': Modern kids aren't less intelligent

It's me, in New Scientist magazine, standing up for 'the kids' yet again, as they're subjected to an endless barrage of evidence-free accusations and paranoia

I look at close to 100 stories a week and even more outside of work. Iβve done this ten years.
This is among the most horrific things Iβve ever read β testimony from dying children whose access to medicine has been cut off by the Trump administration.

RFK said Americans βaddictedβ to opioids, antidepressants, and stimulants should be sent to βwellness farms." Well, this country tried that once before. This is how it went. ‡οΈ
BREAKING: A federal court ruled the lawsuit of RΓΌmeysa ΓztΓΌrk, a Ph.D student detained for writing an op-ed, should proceed in Vermont β denying the Trump administration's motion to move the case to Louisiana.
We will not stop fighting until RΓΌmeysa is home.
BREAKING: We're suing the National Institutes of Health over their politically-motivated purge of research grants.
This is an unlawful attack on scientific progress that puts lives at risk.

Here are six examples of how foreign visitors to the US with no criminal record are being treated:
1. Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holding student with no criminal record married to an American is abducted by ICE and is still in detention over a week later.

For those folks who have been waiting to climb the pole and ring the βconstitutional crisisβ bell, it would appear we have arrived. Neither Judge Sorokin nor Judge Boasberg believed that he was signing a meaningless order, and both judges demanded compliance that never came.
