Yes I am also reminded of another quote often attributed to Orwell:

"To be, or not to be"

Also

"We shall fight them on the beaches."

And of course, the often attributed

"I have a dream"

Opinion | Politicians Are Trying to Control the News

Textbook example of meaning eroded through inaccurate, false equivalency in the name of "balance". A paragraph each on how Republicans and Democrats have eroded freedom of the press. One is a country-wide disaster and one is the example of a single Texas democrat. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/05/o...

If the government gets to decide if you have them, they're not human rights.

Not sure if there's a way out of this. We could use 2 legit 3 and D guys. In crunch time they double BI and if he finds a pass out of it they are rarely punished. Jakobe can make corner 3s and so can Quick, but the just get hunted on defense. Ca ne marche pas.

Can't remember the last time the Raps played a good team and didn't crack under the pressure in the 4th Q. Can beat the bad teams, usually the medium teams, never the good teams. Pretty hard to be enthusiastic for the playoffs.

LOL im currently on a VIA train from Kingston to Toronto, and I thought for the first time this semester it would get to Union on time, but I'm actually not moving while GO Trains slowly slide past us... I don't want to deal with them any more either!

Here's my impression
*Ppl were PISSED when it was originally going through Peterborough (VIA also tried to reduce service around same time).
*Looks like Gerritsen got them to consider a new route that goes through K town.
* Because new route doesn't use VIA corridor, farmers and enviros hate it.

Scientific American has updated the figure, now grouped into swimmers, fliers, walkers/runners, and vehicles. A person on a bicycle remains the most efficient way to travel, compared to all forms of biological locomotion and mechanical transport.

No MPP so Ted Hsu. All the Libs want fast trains, but the alternative Southern route is not currently slated to use the current VIOA corridor and so he has written an open letter for those plans to change.

Is thhis confirmed? My impression is this is this is what is being advocated for, but the alternate southern route is not planned to use the VIA corridor, at the moment.

As a half-Kingstonian at the moment, i can tell you that most of the media and posts i see are anti-ALTO. Its not just a conservative thing. Even the Liberal MPP is writing open letters requesting changes. I think they forgot the community engagement piece.

If Carney's Davos speech was the shot, this is the chaser.

Trump - we don't like that Spain won't support our war, they will be punished economically. EU - Actually no. End of convo.

Carney is PM until that other guy is gone tho.

And Chantal Hebert remains right about the French problem. Canadian progressives are getting nowhere unless it is in collaboration with Francophone society. It's more than surviving a debate.

One more reason to think an Avi Lewis led NDP with public options for groceries and data and a Green New Deal is electable. The pundits are making a lot of predictions based on the eternal gravity oif the previous brittle and crumbling model.

Wow. 400 years of British Parliamentary Democracy has basically meant the same 2 parties sharing power back and forth (as iterated in Canada), but really does seem like the next one won't include either as Greens and Reform battle it out.

There are 450 total players in the NBA. 18 sets of brothers in the league this year = 8% of all NBA players have a NBA family member. This seems like and unusually high number (until you compare it to Canadian politics).

No software. Just voice to text. I just do it in a word doc first. And then I copy paste the text into whatever the LMS is I'm grading with. So they get written feedback. You have to watch for typos, but I think this is something that technology has gotten much better at in the last two years.

In the work smarter category, I do all my grading voice to text. Everyone wins. Students get more detailed individual feedback, and I spend less time grading. Felt it in my bones in Grade 10 that taking a typing class would be a waste of time.

(Oh wait i had to get all the way to prof via typing.)

Men and Women losing Olympic Hockey Gold in OT to the US, a few months after that World Series, while their leader threatens to annex us, is... actually not that big a deal. I'm so happy me and my family live here with Silver Medals and memories of 92 93.

A reason society in general is pretty skeptical of AI is people are smart; and we can tell that this guy, and the other guys like him, are not.

Anyhow, one thing i found about obtuse about the segment is that a leadership race is trying to win votes from a heavily politicized base - and that in fact any of these candidates would immediately start to build broader coalitions as a national leader. FIN

Finally, Hebert also makes a good point thart Canadians are focused on the best PM to take on Trump (duh). After Davos, that's always going to be Carney. But there's (hopefully) only 3 more years of that guy. Ther play is to be the alternative in a post-Trump reality.

You have to put Quebec in play 1st for the rest of the country to look at Dippers as a viable alternative to Libs. The good news is there's opening on the previously mentioned Enviro file. Carney has abandoned many of the environmental positions rthat made him popular there (despite bad French).

21.02.2026 14:48 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Hebert is correct re Quebec. The only time we had a shot it was propelled by the Orange Wave now down to 1 seat and a leader who needs to improve their French (whoever it is).

New NDP Ldr should move to Quebec and stream a reality show living and laughing in small town Quebec. (Seriously!)

Raj makes a good point that a lot more could be done to be forging a national progressive movement with the Greens. This animosity is almost exclusively due to excessive kool-aid drinking and can be corrected.

If the NDP is rebuilding with a real goal of forming government big moves are required.

At Issue | Poilievre’s shrinking caucus YouTube video by CBC News: The National

This At Issue was fun for the 1st half (We all agree that PP is somewhere on the road to being toast.) and confounding in the second half (we all agree the NDP sucks and Avi is the worst.)

I have some thoughts.
