AI reminds me of that.
AI reminds me of that.
When I was 6 years old, in 1979, my dad brought home a computer that he was building at his employer, Texas Instruments. Little 6-year-old me immediately fell in love with it. It was magic. Unlimited possibilities. It made me into a wizard. I never got over that feeling.
I love moving walkways.
principled actors can coordinate acausally, while actors that merely align based on loyalty must negotiate
I would also love to see the results from all other sorts of machines and operating systems. Zcasher John tried it on a teeny little Raspberry Pi but one of the benchmarks failed to complete. :-/ But it'll probably work on most machines/OSes!
Y'all got your hands on one of them shiny new Apple Silicon M5's yet? Please run this script: github.com/zooko/bench-.... It should produce output like this: github.com/zooko/bench-.... Post your results!
I can never remember where I left my reading glasses or my car keys, but someone just mentioned “To Kill a Mockingbird” to me and I somehow knew exactly where it was in my Wall of Books.
It's pretty cool that Jeff Dean independently came up with this same rough rule-of-thumb of 10X that Brian and I did. :-)
Huh! Interesting idea from @JeffDean: design your system to scale by 5–10X but not more. This reminds me that Brian Warner and I came up with the rule of thumb that once your system scales 10X then you'll hit an unknown-unknown: something will break that you hadn't thought of. x.com/olshansky/st...

THIS JUST IN: Secretary of War Pete Hegseth gives Girl Scouts of America until next Friday to "center lethality" in next-generation scouting curriculum, or be designated a "supply chain risk", prohibiting the US military & contractors from buying or consuming Girl Scout Cookies.

Shielded Labs's position: strengthening Zcash's long-term sustainability and capture-resistance is *urgent*, because we have an opportunity to attract long-term investors *now*, and long-term investors are attracted by certainty and sustainability. forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/proposed-n...

& using same double-speak as NSA used, Trump's Pentagon would likely testify to Congress & public, under oath, that private comms of US citizens not "collected" - even if intercepted, decoded, stored, read by AI, & subset forwarded to human analysts - based on a peculiar deceptive def of "collected"
Is it weird to say that coding with agents feels more...organic?
It feels more like tending a garden than building a house. You plant seeds (write specs), water them (poke it along), pull weeds (refactor messes).
It's a different skillset but very informed by existing knowledge.
This has been your regularly-scheduled Zooko Grocery Prices Tweet.
(Ok, so it is not currently as great as it could be and should be, Costco hotdogs notwithstanding.)
I unironically believe that cheap stuff, and especially cheap food, is one of the best things in the universe and part of what makes America great.
Newsflash! Hot dogs are still $1.50 at Costco
Hey bsky/atproto peeps. Can we haz a special kind of link which lets you browse bsky “through someone else’s eyes”? Like, see what they see when they browse?

For some reason I hate the word "futarchy". (It means: you're going to be governed by the future!?) So I'm going to call them "Decision Markets". But anyway, this blog post does a good job of explaining the rationale and walking through an example: www.umbraresearch.xyz/writings/fut... HT Sacha
New rule: if you send me junk mail, it has to be flammable. I need more paper for starting fires in my wood-burning stove.

For those who don't know, there are also already multiple other independent and well-funded Zcash orgs, including the Zcash Foundation and my employer—Shielded Labs (shieldedlabs.net/)%E2%80%94plus several non-independent orgs. This is one of Zcash's many underrated superpowers.
Hooray! Peace treaty achieved. One Zcash org has split into two completely independent orgs supporting and advancing Zcash in different ways. :-) forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/a-message-...
