Manhattan's former west side commercial waterfront has grown into a mix of residential & business use, with attractions like the High Line and #ChelseaMarket drawing crowds. And it doesnโt want for food options.

A friend's gift was the inspiration to make this #๐ญ๐ถ๐ค๐ถ๐ฎ๐ข ice cream with the pulp of that Peruvian fruit. Its mild but distinctive flavor came through with a custard-y, sweet potato-like note. Served it with a shortbread cookie and home-made ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ญ๐ค๐ฆ ๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฆ sauce.
Lunch at Taka on buzzy Cookman Ave in Asbury Park, NJ included "pork fried rice balls" - an ambitious blend of Japan's Chinese-inspired ๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ fried rice and Sicilian #๐ข๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ฏ๐ช rice balls - as well as a still-generous half portion of comforting chicken katsu curry.
Not sure why it took me so long to finally try Cafe Mogador, a long-time fixture of the East Village known for its low-key vibe & Moroccan-ish menu. But all was pleasant, including chicken b'stilla and a daily special #tagine with beef & lamb meatballs, artichoke hearts and peas.
Nowadays, 132 Crosby St on the border of SoHo and #NoLiTa is just the back door of a retail shop. But I wonder who else here might remember the tiny hole-in-the-wall eatery that was once wedged in there, just at the end of the two-block run of Jersey Street behind the Puck Bldg?
Mini black & white cookies at Zaro's Family Bakery in #PennStation have the classic features - mildly lemon-y cake filling & equal areas of chocolate & vanilla frosting.
But - proportions are key & these little ones don't match up to the experience of eating a full-sized version
Reclaiming my NYC #pizza vibe with a humble 'dollar slice' at typical hole-in-the-wall 2nd Av Pizza in Kips Bay.
Nothing to write home about, just a very regular cheese slice like as found at hundreds of similar spots all around town, but a local staple.

A #KitKat donut from Homie's Donuts in NoLiTa. This offshoot of Montreal's clearly Simpsons-themed Homer's Donuts (I'm guessing US legal concerns caused the name change) offers thematically bingeable sugary sweets, but rather literal & low-effort like the candy bar topping here.

A simple breakfast of an egg and cheese sandwich is an NYC bodega staple, but Vineapple Cafe in #BrooklynHeights offers a more elevated version. Theirs features scrambled eggs with asiago cheese folded in, paired with peppery arugula and house-made tomato jam on a kaiser roll.
All the baked goods at Le French Tart at the northern edge of #BrooklynHeights are high-quality, but their pecan tarts - a European treat made with a nut native to North America - give an opportunity to tell the story of the Columbian Exchange and its impact on foods world-wide.
A #DUMBO fixture since the 1980s, Front Street Pizza serves a lively mix of locals & tourists today.
Most of their offerings are standard fare but square, crisp-crusted โgrandmaโ pie is a stand-out, with classic margherita toppings of crushed tomato, fresh mozzarella, & basil.

Jeremy Dean's crew at Lucky Rabbit cranks out generous portions of credible Asian fare, including rich Massaman Curry and highly addictive fried rice.
Their house dumplings with chicken, black garlic, ginger and lemongrass are a great way to introduce guests to the varied menu.
DUMBO's unassuming little corner shop La Bagel Delight punches far above its weight in quality, as reflected in the crowds that line up for their freshly-made wares.
Order ahead and sample a broad range of tastes at once by trying the everything #bagel with scallion cream cheese

Past the #ManhattanBridge in the rapidly expanding northern arm of DUMBO, Fontainhas is a chill coffee/chai and snack spot with varied Indian-inspired pastries and savory dishes.
Their toasted house sandwich with chicken or paneer can easily be split between a few hungry guests.

Dawn Casale extended the menu & hours of her One Girl Cookies shop in #DUMBO - now it's known as Dawn's Til Dusk.
But the baked goods are still crowd pleasers & a mix of their little tea cookies allows sampling of varied flavors including an interesting lemon rosemary shortbread

Another good tour stop in Time Out Market is Jacob's Pickles, known for fried chicken and over-the-top mac & cheese.
Their battered and fried #pickles are spears rather than the more common chips, making for a distinctive take on a Southern classic & nice option for vegetarians.

Pastrami Factory in Time Out Market offers credible versions of deli classics like knishes, latkes & a range of sandwiches.
But their #pastrami egg roll is an opportunity to tell the story of how Jewish New Yorkers reworked an American Chinese classic to fit their dietary needs.

As part of his plan to create the DUMBO of today, developer David Walentas gave Jacques Torres free rent for a year to launch a #chocolate factory there. 25 years on itโs still a great spot for sweets - any one of their varied bonbons is a satisfying, indulgent taste experience.

Butler in #DUMBO is known for pastries & quality casual dishes like their rotisserie chicken sandwich. But for a nice, portable bite for guests, go for the heritage pork mini sausage roll - enlivened with cilantro & wrapped in puff pastry liberally sprinkled with sesame seeds.

Patsy Grimaldi sold his brand to a national chain but couldn't stay away & returned to his old coal-fired #pizza oven using his Mom's name at Juliana's.
Hard by the Brooklyn Bridge, their stretchy, slightly charred pies are a true NYC treat for guests. Call ahead to skip the line!

Having walked by many times, finally tried #Teochew Chinese spot Bo Ky per @RobertSietsema's recent praise.
Duck was as expected - moist, tender & flavorful, the soft skin delicious. Would like to explore more, but other items I tried were unremarkable.

Well, they do have an excellent grilled chicken cutlet sandwich with fresh mozzarella, romaine lettuce & roasted red pepper, generously sized on a house-made roll.
But my explorations of their pizza offerings indicate they are mediocre at best. In fairness, I've only tried a couple versions...
A late hit for yesterday's #NationalPizzaDay (a celebration of ambiguous origins).
Sadly, this thick 'lasagna' slice from Roma Pizza was not a credit to its kind - bready and too salty, with a blandness that not even fresh ricotta could salvage.
Better luck next year I guess!
Picked up this glossy red-and-white #donut at Smile To Go in Gramercy - I think they get them in from Doughnut Plant.
Starting as an interpretation of the classic black-and-white cookie, this variation replaces the chocolate side with red velvet cake donut and red icing.
Needed a #dosa reset so off to the Curry Hill location of Saravanaa Bhavan to reconnect with their canonical savory crepes.
Very much enjoyed their 'pav bhaji' dosa filled with spicy veggies known from the popular street food bun. Yellow dal coconut chutney was also a standout!
Quick snack of a tempura shrimp #onigiri from the Gramercy location of bubble tea and rice ball shop Yaya Tea.
This small regional chain has several outlets across the boroughs of NYC, as well as outposts on Long Island, in New Jersey and North Carolina.
