Felt compelled to write this. On the state of things, this Reconciliation Week. First Nations people in this country are under constant attack. Subject to systems and attitudes designed to control and silence us. We resist by speaking out.
It does. I'd never thought of that

Ashby's dwarf banksia has its first flower after being planted two years ago. Beautiful golden yellow tone. There are two developing flowers in the background.

tiny Ruby red berries hanging from the delicate thin branches of a sprawling tangle of a saltbush.
Saltbush is in full flower and the berries are appearing and ripening. Tastie little morsels if I can beat the birds, goanna and chickens to them. My lucky day today obviously. π±

You will need to make long-term plans. In captivity they can live up to 80yrs I think. I can hear the wild ones here chatting at night sometimes.
A Djakal-ngakal (pink and grey galah) perched a top the frame of my clothesline, looking back over its wing toward the camera.

Your writing, as always, speaks in ways that inform but also spark the deepest of reflection.
I tried to resist writing about this particular white gazed book, but couldn't. Here's my essay on Evie Wyld's dehumanisation of Blak people, and co-option of Blak trauma for her latest sad white girl novel. Harmful white gazed novels need to be left in colonial eras. overland.org.au/2025/02/echo...
It was the first thing I put in my muted list so if it did get here I was ready. It's the worst
The relief the MHT I use will be on the PBS come March is real. I don't use the full dose because that's not always in the budget. This means I will have full benefit from the medication. Hopefully it will make it accessible to more people experiencing perimenopause & postmenpausal symptoms.
An Australian White Ibis in silhouette standing majestically a top a shed roof with the pre sunset sky bright behind. This one is a real poser.

I guess if you could get it established it would be ok. I do find banksia take a good 4-5 years before their tap root gets deep enough for them to really take off here. I am right near the coast so no frosts but heaps of wind and salt.
Glad he's feeling better. Hope you get to catch up on your sleep tonight. I've been nursing a crook chook the last week or so. I envy you your local vet.
A mighty big one π
Iβm back on the tools for The Spencer Street End. This time about the odds stacked against us depending on which post code weβre born in.

Banksia watch is in full swing. My most mature shrub is flowering earlier than past years. Not complaining and neither are the birds π±π¦
I have always loved this song. Seeing her live is still one of my favourite concerts. Ruby Hunter and Archie Roach opened for her. It was brilliant.
So good. Her albums never disappoint
I don't believe she is. I've had intermittent contact these last few years and she was into more digital pursuits. The etsy store still exists but no stock.
