It's not the *complete* idea, but now I've suddenly got the proper plot motivator and a vague frame of a setting.
Sometimes I'll spend weeks trying to figure out an approach to a story concept without much luck, and then something will spontaneously come to me straight out of the ether.

I need to play the Battlestar Galactica board game again. Nothing beats watching a chain reaction of murder as a cylon kills a human, a second human kills the cylon, and then a third human kills themself because morale dropped too much during the chaos.
Hopefully that'll change once I move and have space for a terrifying number of bookshelves.
