I agree that intolerance is bad. I do not agree that gender-specific sports are intolerant. Sorry for the confusion. I think we should do like the native tribes and have a third gender. That avoids the whole problem.

I agree with that! I don't think it's respectful or fair or reasonable to tell parents of cis-children they are being "intolerant" for something they see as being as obvious as the difference between the sun and moon. Respect has to work both ways.

Good point. I've never gotten into it myself but it sure seems like something people have always done. I do enjoy a good horse race but I guess that doesn't count.

I'm not advocating making trans people subservient or property, so the analogy doesn't really fit. Why can't respect work both ways? They leave you alone to live your best lives as a trans person, and you leave them alone to choose who their cis-children compete against?

Yessssss!!!!! A great example. We need to be happy with incremental change. Marriage equality was huge and took decades of struggle to achieve. It may go away soon, but we had made lots of progress in acceptance.

When I say "trans movement" I'm thinking about people who believe that trans rights cannot exist unless they are seen as ACTUAL women or men with no compromise on that point. Can you help me understand why that point is seen as so important to some people? Why not be happy to be left alone in peace?

Ok, I'll play along. So why do trans right hinge on that claim? Wouldn't it make more sense to be happy with "I am what I am, so leave me alone?"

Again, I see sports as a reasonable compromise, not surrendering or harming.

So this gets back to my question about the sports. How is maintaining gender norms in competitive sports "othering?"

I live in Texas, where we gleefully waited for the Hispanic population to tip into the majority and turn Texas blue, but they went Maga in the last election because of the anti-trans propaganda. In the Senate race between Cruz and Allred, anti-trans propaganda was the only issue they ran ads on.
