Eglinton East LRT re-design? Toronto’s 2026 budget quietly includes a direction to explore grade separation and underground segments for this at-grade-only planned project. It seems like the Line 6 Finch West LRT experience is an influencing factor here. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

Since Transit Signal Priority is a hot topic right now, here is a reminder of why. In a since deleted Q&A post from Metrolinx, they outline that the TTC essentially kneecapped transit priority on the Finch LRT and Eglinton LRT. We need to push Toronto to do better!

Interesting stats from GO Transit’s 2025 Wrapped. What stands out is the Milton Line, once GO’s number 3 most-used route, has dropped to 5th. This is because of significant new weekend service being added to the Kitchener and Barrie Lines, whereas Milton has just peak service.

This weekend while the Barrie GO Line was shut down, crews installed a pedestrian tunnel at Bowie Ave for the under-construction Caledonia GO Station. This station will connect to Line 5 Eglinton Caledonia Station, making this area a great future multi-modal transit hub.

Here is a video of GO Kitchener Line, Union Pearson Express, and Line 5 Eglinton trains operating at Mount Dennis Station. It will be one of the best-connected transit hubs in Toronto. It also includes a massive TTC bus terminal.

West of Mount Dennis, the Line 5 Eglinton West Extension is progressing. Here at Jane/Eglinton, we see the elevated guideway being built. This intersection will also be home to an elevated station (which will likely be called β€œEglinton Flats”?).

Another Line 5 Eglinton observation re: speed. While driving, I β€œraced” a train between Sunnybrook Park Station and Pharmacy Station. We essentially kept pace with each other the entire trip, despite the train having to stop at stations along the way. Traffic was medium (6PM).

The Hurontario LRT will have this type of rail for the entire line, with concrete only to the base of rail. Hope they put red paint down.

A silver lining: despite the westbound Line 5 Eglinton track being blocked at Golden Mile Station, light rail trains kept running. The line’s various crossover tracks meant that trains could β€œdetour” around the problem area. Good to see.

The new GO Transit maps in trains are great, and include the TTC’s rapid transit network. We need more unified regional wayfinding like this!
