The pharma deal with the US is woefully short-sighted There must be more scrutiny of our pharma agreement with the US. Trump is strong-arming the UK into accepting massive price rises.

"Parliament must have the final say over whether we’ll accept Trump and big pharma’s bullying. If we give in this time around, they'll only be coming back for more."

Communities across the UK are taking action today and tomorrow to #StopDirtyDataCentres. They'll use energy, land + water that should be for people, not big tech.

In Brick Lane, London, they plan to build a new data centre instead of social housing 🤯

Moratorium now!

Data Centres Threaten UK Climate Targets

Big Tech’s plan to build more hyperscale data centres is putting the UK’s climate targets at risk.

Developers’ own figures indicate that emissions from just 10 planned UK data centres will release 2.7 million tonnes of CO² each year, wiping out annual CO² savings from the switch to EVs.

It is estimated that more than 100 data centres are planned across the UK, the largest of which would consume more electricity than double all the households in Wales.

Data center fights are hyperlocal but depend on opaque global supply chains + geopolitical resource grabs. How do data centers connect with critical minerals and electronics manufacturing, and what makes these connections palpable? Hannah Lipstein + I wrote about this @techpolicypress.bsky.social

How AI is draining Australia’s green power In 2019, a new venture in the Australian outback looked set to export our solar power to the world – upending our neighbours’ reliance on fossil fuels. Backed by the billionaires Mike Cannon-Brookes ...

Was lovely to chat with the 7am podcast team about why a huge clean export project flipped to powering data centres

It's all part of the bigger story of tech eating up the resources of climate action, diverted away from eliminating fossil fuels and towards fuelling a growth-obsessed hype industry.
