I do a barbell approach where I read the best stuff I can find, the stuff I can’t begin to compare to, and when writing self-esteem is low, I’ll sprinkle in some absolute shite as a pick-me-up.

Would it help to read out what you’ve written aloud when you’re in the editing phase? I’m sure you’ve tried this, but it helps me enormously to find writing errors and generally make better prose choices.
