I guess this is kind of a PSA that if you’re fleeing one the worst states for trans people, consider Illinois for this reason.

Also other safe states should start doing this too, pls!

Do younger people know about the huge effort that was put into decreasing the % of smokers. Education campaigns in print, on TV, in schools, new restrictions/enforcement, labeling, a soupçon of public shaming, changes in how smoking was depicted, etc. Might guide us in anti-anti-vax efforts.

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

I’m also currently watching a series of shorts where a woman in period-appropriate dress is eating a week’s worth of meals from 1940s UK ration cards and menus.

So cleansing.

Comes, "What, like queers have feelings?"

I planned to share my report on the body cam footage early next week when I learned that a DC news station had obtained some of the footage as a result of my lawsuit and they were going to scoop me. After working on this for a year, I couldn't let that happen. Published 2 mins before they aired :)

The backfire effect. Humans are such stubborn cusses that if we're proven wrong, we double down instead of changing our minds. The more stinging the rebuke to our pre-existing beliefs, the weirder we get about it. And COVID represented a one-punch KO for anti-vaxxers.

To understand what it's like for trans people watching all this "nuanced reasonable debate" bullshit flow, just imagine all the "serious people" having a debate about abortion where the only participants are people who will never have an abortion.

Cooperatives are widely supported in the United States. New data shows the same is true in Canada. People value the ability of co-ops to weather economic recessions better than other types of businesses, as well as their democratic and inclusive nature.

Listened to this at 6 minutes in or so. It’s not directly stated, but it appears the reason that Mamdani has not directed H+H to absorb trans patients is out of fear of the federal government. β€œIt’s part of the game we have to play with the federal government .”

It’s the EXACT logic NYU is using.

Teen mothers were silenced in 1960s maternity homes. Could it happen again? Kate Schatz’s novel "Where the Girls Were" revisits an era of secrecy, shame and girls pressured to give up their babies.

More than 1.5 million girls were sent to maternity homes during the Baby Scoop era, where they were kept in seclusion, told they didn’t deserve to be mothers, and returned to their lives to pretend none of it happened.

This is the America the GOP wants to make great again.
