I had a successful and emotionally fulfilling day at the Texas Legislature today advocating for the arts - exemplified by only having a single business card left. There's a lot of good people out there still fighting for what's right.

And now, here we are. I'm just a woman, but here we are, in a place where we were hoping we were never going to b.

I'll never be a Jedi. I'm not cool enough to be Poe Dameron. But I try to do the right thing, I am a stellar pilot, and I'd do my best,

But I wasn't. I wasn't just a pilot. I was an Awing pilot. For, across multiple video games and more, Awing pilots were ... we made decisions. We were driving bombs with engines after all.

My place, in my mind, in the Star Wars universe, was that of a proficient but ultimately dispensable pilot.

I am a pilot irl, in no small part due to Wedge Antilles and the other amazing EU pilots.

I saw myself, when I was a small thing, as a pilot. Always just a pilot, never one of the "heroes".

I don't know if I could ever actually put into words what Star Wars means to me, especially at this particular junction.

And let me be clear, before we start, that when I pictured myself in the Star Wars universe, I was never a hero. I was exploding Awing pilot #4.

That, it turns out, is key.
