Using acoustic #telemetry to quantify #marine horizontal diel migration in very small cod 🐟 we show that:

• Migration timing closely tracks photoperiod
• During continuous daylight diel migration stops
• There is substantial among individual variation

There’s plenty of lumpfish in the fjords, but we rarely catch them - our fishing is focused on the more mobile gadids.

Yesterday’s tiny (and very cute) by-catch was definitely worth a photo.

Complementing Beach Seining With Dive Surveys Improves Fine‐Scale Resolution of 0‐Group Gadoid Distributions in Nearshore Habitats Located within the Westfjords of Iceland, the fine-scale depth distribution of juvenile 0-group gadoids was surveyed in nearshore nursery habitats using beach seine and dive survey methods. The beach....

🎣 New paper! Combining dive surveys and beach seining reveals contrasting nursery use: 0-group saithe dominate shallow algal zones early in summer, while cod settle later and use broader depths.
