Two young kittens cuddling on a black cat bed. One is orange and one is a void.
New kittens are here! Meet Mango (4 months old) and Boba (10 months old). They are adorable and perfect!

Observation from my PT visit this morning: so much of what I do for fun is about pain management (lyra, trapeze, rock climbing) that I forget that being in pain at other times is not actually good and maybe can be helped. Hmmm.
Oh man. Some of those are extremely tempting, but so pricey already.
In my social circles, I'm known as a person with strong boundaries. This is lovely, as it means that I'm generally spared a lot of bullshit that people might try on others -- they preemptively decide that I'm probably not gonna stand for it. Resting bitch face for the win!
Upon hearing my description of all my athletic endeavors, my new physical therapist said, in a delightful New Zealand accent, "lady, you've got too much time on your hands!"
First trapeze class of the year, and my standby trick is going well. Feeling smoother and stronger and happy to fly!
Finally made it out to see Dear San Francisco (the circus show at Club Fugazi), and wow, that was amazing! Really fantastic performances and a lovely love letter to the city. Kiddo loved it too!
I had the sweetest new client today and am reminded of how glad I am to be able to do this work. It really is a privilege to connect with folks and support them in self discovery (and also symptom management). Humans are a challenge and also a joy.
Mexico City airport has had some moments of surprising efficiency, and also a lot of confusion.
Last show here we go!!!
First show after a week-long break is a little exciting, lol. So many small things going wonky, but doing well overall. Second (and last) weekend, go!
Spent the evening yesterday at a sauna thing and I still feel extra warm this morning. What a nice start to my time off!
I'm done with work for the year, woohoo! I still have some theater crewing to do, but that's less emotionally draining than being a therapist :)
Mundane escape room ideas (must exit the situation in 60 minutes):
- you've entered the bathroom in the morning and must shower/get ready/etc
- you're in a book/game/hobby store
- you have been tasked with finding/buying a specific item in Costco on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving
What else?
Colds are so weird. Yesterday, I was in that illness place of "I guess this is how I will feel forever" and today I feel mostly human, except when I suddenly start coughing and can't stop (we can thank the asthma for that). At least I got sick last week and not on retreat next week.
A bold choice!
I'm sometimes not the oldest at my local flying trapeze place, but usually the oldest at lyra, and I feel like the retreat will amplify that. Which is ok, but just... awkward feeling right now!
Getting ready to leave for my 2 week aerial (lyra) retreat on Sunday, hours after the show closes. So excited and also getting anxious as it gets closer. Taking bets on whether I'll be the oldest student there at almost 42.
It sucks so much to back out of things that you were genuinely wanting to be part of, and it sounds like really good self care!
Done with first week of shows, yay!!! No major disasters, in the grand scheme of things.
A person wearing a headset, a black face mask, and a black T-shirt. They are very wide eyed.
Last day of shows for weekend 1, let's go!
Two more shows this weekend and then a break till next week (well, break from shows, not my actual day job). I can do it! At least this cold is probably not COVID (and I've been masking religiously, as I do anyway).
So far so good on that front! 2 of the 4 (!!) pianos on stage had minor mishaps at today's matinee, but I don't think the audience could tell...
It did! No major disasters, and generally everything ran smoothly. 4 more shows this weekend before a break till next week!
So far, opening night is going much better!
Two feet wearing black socks. One foot has an ice pack sitting on it.
Well, that was a good start to our prep.
The school show (Friday morning the whole audience are local students) is essentially a preview, right? Right?!!
Well, today's dress was a total improvement on yesterday's tech. We broke way fewer set pieces!
LOL, fair! I do suspect that for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, such an event would be a little more obvious...
I know that tech week is always a mess and things come together and the audience generally doesn't know when things haven't gone how they're supposed to...but I promise you, if we explode a light on stage because the couch slams into it at speed, the audience will know. So, uh, 2 more rehearsals.
