Windstone is a Canadian charity dedicated to theology, ecology & the arts, & their work offers models of ecumenical Christian hospitality & the cultivation of beauty. So pleased to be working with & supporting some of the people I admire most.
Photo of a pamphlet for Windstone Farm Community. Title reads "roots for growth: cultivating a sustainable future." A photo on the pamphlet shows arms of two people wrapped around a tree trunk.
Kindred spirits, get to know this charity: I'm honoured & delighted to be a new member of Windstone Farm Community's Board of Directors. www.windstonecommunity.org
New post! Some ways Iβve managed to get myself writing. Maybe theyβll help you, too. nataliemorrill1.substack.com/p/five-pract...
Their implied answer seems to be, "You can watch Corner Gas." Well,,
Dear Gym, how am I supposed to work out if your TVs are not playing the Olympics
Dreamed last Wednesday night that I was going to be allowed to adopt an owl, as it was blind and could not be released back into the wild. Needless to say, Thursday was shot through with vague disappointment.
New Substack post! Sorry for the long hiatus, friends:

I'd trust a Ronald. Skeptical of a Ron, though.
Screenshot of facebook post from 2015 from Natalie, with the following text: My brother, re: Dad's new madeleine pan: "Even looking at it gives me strange feelings of nostalgia." "Ha! So you're saying you're, like, the hyper-Proust?" "Ha ha ha... What?" He did not know who Proust was. He just had nostalgic feelings about madeleines.
FB reminded me of when my brother tried to reinvent In Search of Lost Time from first principles
Briefly thought "queens" was you addressing us, your fefos
Poor husband is trying to tell me a story from early in his career, but unfortunately it involves Gamestop acquiring the Funko Pop company & all my mental self-defense mechanisms are wired to delete whatever information comes next
Still can't quite believe that my story, Last Train from Deadwall, made the Locus Recommended Reading List, but it's there! Many thanks to @bcsmagazine.bsky.social for giving this story a home and @scott-h-andrews.bsky.social for helping to shape it into its best form.

Whoa!!
Photo of a metal tea kettle with buttons reading "160 degrees - delicate", "185 degrees - white", "200 degrees - french press", etc.
My tea kettle was on its last legs, so my husband got me a new one with exotic American temperature settings. Heating water to 200 degrees like we're at the bottom of the Mariana Trench
Recalling the time a friend was praising me for something & said, "I really admire that. It's the kind of thing I would do," & seemed not to clock what a hilarious, Jane-Austen-character-dialogue bit of speech she'd just uttered.
Photo of a mostly eaten custard tart held in the photographer's hand, with a tim hortons bag and steering wheel behind
π¨Tim Hortons has Portugese custard tarts at the moment! π¨ They're good! (Just wanted to munch this guy but stopped to alert the TL.)
Still a gap in the market for Advanced Guinea Pig Training
Photo of a business card with photo of a guinea pig and text, "guinea pig training 101. Rent the video online. With professional animal trainer barbara heidenreich"
Fascinated by these business cards on display at my vet's office. Truly an entrepreneur who received the message, "Niche down."
At the vet yesterday, there was a woman with a pet pigeon. I have an idea for a story with pigeons, so I was trying to mine her for pigeon intel. She told me male pigeons (like hers) fight each other unless they have a wife. "Got to get him a wife," she said.

Amazing, wonderful wedding photos from our photographer, Christopher Wilson. π Dog park friends come in very handy!

Lol yes, driver is my husband & I told him to leave the car in "dog mode" for us while he went in to get some groceries
Photo of a screen in a car that reads "my driver will be back soon. don't worry! The heater is on and it's 73Β°F"
Selfie of natalie in the front passenger seat with a sheltie panting behind her
Just two dogs waiting for our driver with the heater on & it's 73Β°F
I believe it was from one of Kenji Lopez-Alt's cookbooksβpossibly The Wok?
Photo of two bowls of congee on a table. There is a soft boiled egg split in half in each
John made us delicious congee (Johngee?) π₯£
Shoot, is this one also fake?
Also highlight of Gus's day today was Mum dropping off juice & oranges for us (sorry Gus jumped on you, Mum)
I have been sick with a bad cold & migraines the last few days. Much help received: Dad has walked Gus; Mum has sent me soup; husband (working in US) had soup delivered to my house. π Gus has barked at me anytime I sneezed to tell me it's wrong.
Community & living together are always challengingβsometimes, perhaps, impossible in our brokenness. I'm reflecting on the openness & generosity of disposition it takes to be willing to permanently change your life in this way for someone in need.
