This is absolutely book banning, despite the minister's denials, and I have no doubt that LGBTQ+ books will be targeted. But also- many Alberta teachers and librarians are deeply committed to queer inclusion and to readers' rights and will continue to fight book bans.

“Pride Puppy! and books like it aren’t controversial—they offer children a chance to see themselves and others with empathy and understanding. Inclusive literature doesn’t push a particular belief; it simply acknowledges that all families and identities deserve to be part of the story.”
Alito's opinion in Mahmoud v. Taylor is poisonous homophobia that gives parents a de facto right to ban books in public school classrooms. It's violently stigmatizing toward LGBTQ families and filled with lies and bigotry. Every justice who joined it should be ashamed. slate.com/news-and-pol...
Two women in colorful dresses and jean jackets are holding a copy of Pride Puppy while sitting on chairs under a white canopy tent. 7 kids, a parent, and ASL interpreter are seated in front of them, with the children's backs to the camera.
Robin Stevenson and Julie McLaughlin are sitting behind a table outdoors. A row of pride flags, hang overhead, and the table in front of them is covered with copies of Pride Puppy as well as a few other books, coloring pages and stickers.
Yesterday- the day after the ruling on Mahmoud v Taylor- @whatwouldjuliedraw.bsky.social and I read Pride Puppy to kids and families at a Queer and Trans Farmers Market. It was a good reminder of why we wrote the book. So much queer joy. Happy Pride, friends.
PRIDE PUPPY illustrator @whatwouldjuliedraw.bsky.social included her own (ADORABLE) pup in the book. When I read and talk about this book with kids, this is always one of their favorite pieces of behind the scenes trivia.

Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia graduate and pro-Palestinian activist, was released on bail after more than 100 days of detention on Friday. He said if President Trump’s goal had been to suppress pro-Palestinian speech, he had “absolutely failed.” nyti.ms/3ZJ6ZCb
