I’ve been asked if I would support Sen. Mullin as Noem’s replacement.
The answer is a resounding NO. The rot in DHS is deep, much deeper than any individual.
It’s a question of policy not personnel. The Senate should not consider any DHS Secretary nominee until DHS and ICE are reined in.

This is honestly one of the most anti-Jewish things I’ve ever seen from the United States government.

I learned Biblical and Modern Hebrew. Took courses on the Bible (HB/OT and NT), Church history, Holocaust studies, African American religious history, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and many more. It’s a rigorous degree, and you risk alienating people of faith by trashing it

There’s a lot of divinity school and M.Div. related discourse because of James Talarico. As the holder of an M.Div. let me describe what getting one is like.
I took three years of coursework, did two field placements, and wrote a thesis as a capstone 1/

Balint to Noem: "You're the secretary of DHS -- for now. And you think you're immune from accountability. But I promise you this: one day he is not gonna be president anymore. And when that day comes, we will still be here. And in hearings like this, we are going to continue to prove your guilt."

And yet, where are the encampments? Where’s the 24/7 news coverage? I actually broadly agree with *most* critiques of the Israeli regime. But the issue has lost salience—public opinion is shifting, but people don’t seem to be acting on it as much

Agreed, but given how quickly Gaza disappeared from US consciousness I think expecting similar reactions to Sudan, the Congo, Uyghurs, or even Iranians is a long shot. Israel's Jewishness primes gentiles to react, and America's support for Israel makes broaching other subjects look like whataboutism

This. But also Mamdani destroyed his chance to lead anything nationwide by choosing to run for mayor of NYC (see Giuliani, Bloomberg, DeBlasio, and Adams...also Brandon Johnson in Chicago). Should've waited for AOC to run for higher office (his district overlaps with hers)

And the single politician most equipped to lead an anti-Israel political movement in the US while holding the line against antisemitism, Zohran Mamdani, was treated like a world-historical threat by every major American Jewish organization.
In short, everything is terrible.

Hopefully it's a small slice, but my mentions over the past day suggest there's a group of Platner supporters who think the Nazi/antisemitism stuff is *good* because it ensures that he'll be an Israel skeptic on foreign policy.
