Dr Amer added: "We cannot move in our country [eg. from Gaza to visit relatives in the West Bank]. Muslims in Jerusalem, in Ramadan, going to the Aqsa Mosque to pray, can't go unless they are over 50 years old. The Israel soldiers stand in the front of the gates and check the ID."

Dr Amer said the decision to leave Gaza, a few months after the Israel bombardment following Oct 7th, was "the hardest decision of my life", as he left family, thousands of students and academics. He talked about the destruction of Gaza's universities.
