A new Blakes 7 is in the works, could be interesting. Currently watching the series via the new Blu-ray releases, there are some very dark themes that would work great in a reboot. deadline.com/2026/01/blak...

Had a great time last night at BFIs screening of the pilot episode of Twin Peaks on 35mm. Looked great on the big screen and still one of the best ever tv pilots. Great intro as well with some scans from Radio times when it aired, love this character chart.
‘We want people to sit, pause, relax’: National Trust to open its libraries for public use
Picture of a almost finished plastic model of the red seaplane piloted by Porco Rosso in the titular film.
Finally getting around to building this model kit from a Japan trip 3 years ago. Been a while since I’ve done a traditional glue and paint kit rather than snap build but relatively pleased with it.
3D scans of the wreck today, and simulation snapshop of Titanic sinking
For any Titanic nerds out there, my colleagues in the UCL Marine safety group have just published an astonishingly detailed analysis and supercomputer simulation of how Titanic sank, linked to witness statements & the best available evidence. Full paper here:

Semi succesful BFI LFF ticket haul today. Couldn't get the big screenings I had earmarked but I can catch them at a later date. More pleased I secured two smaller interesting films that I would otherwise struggle to see theatrically.
Brilliant video by the BFI exploring the original film print of Star Wars. Maybe one day will get to see it on the big screen (didn't succeed in the ballot for this screening)
A light blue diagram depicting the sea, with the water's surface at the top, and just below it is an outline of the Mary Rose, with the depth (12m, 40ft or 6.7 fathoms). There is a line showing the seabed, which takes a rapid dive into the vertical...
On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,
"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"
Allow our scaled diagram to explain...
The main hall of Coventry Guildhall. The ceiling is decorated with numerous bosses and the end of the room is dominated by a 500 year old tapestry.
Ceiling with decorated bosses including angels, swans and elephants.

Memorial dedicated to Coventry firemen who died in the Blitz.
Had a very nice tour of St Mary’s Guildhall in Coventry today, a rare survivor of Coventrys medieval past. The included mulled wine went down very well!
Fancy your own Powell & Pressburger festival? Currently on/heading to BBC iPlayer are I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING!, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP and P&P doc MADE IN ENGLAND. A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH and THE RED SHOES join from Sat. But see thread for links to other P&P joy available in the UK

If you want proof of how cool we are, this is how we store our 35mm slides. 😎
View of the House of Commons Library. Shows wooden chairs with green leather covers around a table. Wooden panelling lines the walls with shelves full of books.
It's time to apply for the 2025 House of Commons Library Open Day. Hear all about our work and get the chance to visit the Library within the Palace of Westminster. Full details and application form here: www.linkedin.com/posts/claire...
Had a fun time with Gladiator 2. Not in the same league as the original but still a very good time at the cinema with some impressive spectacle.
Finishing #RingsOfPower sent me back to the #LOTR films
Fellowship made me realise that #Libraries were THE deciding factor in saving Middle Earth

Fingers crossed that this will be good. Love the book series so have high hopes. deadline.com/2024/11/rive...
Photograph of a page from The Sunday Times Magazine, 10/11/2024, with a colourised photo reproduced in a 'This week in 1918' feature. The reproduced photo shows female nurses in uniform standing at the railings of The London Hospital in Whitechapel on Armistice Day 1918 waving flags and celebrating. They are wearing floor length dresses with aprons and caps, and the dresses have been colourised light blue. In fact, probationer and staff nurses at the hospital at this date wore a lilac coloured dress.
Nooo! Stop colourising archive photos if you dont have actual evidence of original colours! (Or just stop altogether, actually...)
Sent this today - original not from our collections, but definitely London Hospital nurses. Uniforms colourised light blue, not the purple they would actually be wearing

View from ridge of LCT 7074
On my way back to London from a short break in Chichester and Portsmouth. A highlight was seeing the restored LCT 7074 at the D Day story museum. Fantastic restoration work and interpretation, well worth a visit.
also loved the this fake ‘spilled’ milk on the floor - looked very realistic in person.
Had a great time today at the new Japan House exhibition on fake display food. Commonly used by Japanese restaurants in window displays to show what’s on the menu there were some amazing examples of craft. Left feeling quite hungry!
Watching the #ringsofpower finale in the best way possible on the big screen tonight thanks to Empire Magazine.
Ticked a couple of Livery companies off my list this morning as part of #openhouselondon. Carpenters and Bakers Hall are both post war builds after the previous halls were destroyed in the Blitz.
The BFI has posted the full Q and A with Guillermo Del Toro that I attended a few weeks back on their youtube channel - well worth a listen. Mainly about Pinnochio but some insights into the upcoming Frankenstein and other topics like AI youtu.be/TlC9sxUu2l0?...
RIP James Earl Jones 😭😭😭
The voice of Darth Vader, from 1977 to The Rise of Skywalker, is gone. The narrator of Judge Dredd (1995) was also in Dr. Strangelove, SG-1, Conan, The Great White Hope, The Lion King, The Hunt for Red October, and so many classics.
He was 93.
Currently in New York for a significant Birthday and having a great time - spent yesterday going round the USS Intrepid, blown away by the scale/size of the ship. Plus seeing a craft that has been in space called the Enterprise will always be thrilling to a sci geek like me.
At the BFI once again tonight! Had a great time watching Starve Acre, a really creepy slice of British folk horror.
Filone di Mot military village near Scorluzzo
Italian trenches in the Lagorai sector
Reconstructed Austrian huts near Pontebba
Italian positions near Bezecca in the Ledro sector
A few snaps from my recent explorations of the lesser known battlefields of Italian Front.
Guillermo del Toro being interviewed on stage at the BFI
Had a great day yesterday listening to one of my favourite filmmakers at the BFI. Also the opportunity to see Pinocchio on the big screen where you can truly admire the stop motion craft.
Happy New Year! Here’s to 2024 being a great one!
