This situation is damaging our organising capacity & the united front we need to win, handing ammunition to employers by not practicing what we preach. We deserve a democratic union in which critical voices are heard & we need the dispute with @uniteucu.bsky.social to be resolved. #HandsOffMarie

TO RUN
BRITAIN
Robert Peston β’ @Peston β’ 16m
After the Venezuela strikes and extra judicial kidnapping of Maduro, why would Putin or China (or any of the Global South) think the West has any moral authority? Why would China think the US has any right to lecture it about its ambitions to seize Taiwan, for example? And as for the international rule of law, it is being shredded.
Trump claims Maduro directly runs a narco terrorist organisation rather than simply being an autocrat in charge of a corrupt state - of which there are far too many in the world. Let's see if our intelligence services can furnish any hard evidence to the British prime minister supporting the charge of Maduro's personal leadership of the cocaine and fentanyl cartel. If not Starmer is in a very difficult position.

Fun as it is to see Peston stating outright what the situation is, hereβs whatβs going to happen: government and press will brazen this out with drivel until it drops out of the headlines, then everyone will get right back on their previous bullshit. This is what they always do, without fail.

A defining moment for Europe. If it endorses/fails to condemn this flagrant breach of international law, it will have surrendered its core justification for opposing Russiaβs invasion of Ukraine

Meanwhile Robin Ince genuinely has been cancelled for daring to voice his opinions and for defending trans people.
Where's the outrage from the "cancel culture" lot?
What are the Free Speech Union doing to help him?

The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

Lots to unpack in the Peggie v Fife judgment, and much of it has already been covered on here, but it's useful imo to highlight a single sentence from para 1024: "a protected belief does not give carte blanche to say whatever the person holding those beliefs wishes".

Labour's strategy of telling its supporters to back Reform-style policies, or get a Reform Government, is the politics of the protection racket and it is not going to work
