this is exactly the correct answer to "who do we be mad at when two groups' rights' are in conflict", the answer is "whoever tf is putting them in conflict", which in this case is "the assholes at the BBC"

These things simply can’t deal with anything that really exists. My friend tried to use one to find summer camp options for her kids and it returned 100% nonexistent camps.

We found strikingly clear evidence that climate change is increasing the risk of fire-prone conditions in Chile and Patagonia, making blazes like these much more likely than they would have been without fossil fuel emissions. Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

A Secret Panel to Question Climate Science Was Unlawful, Judge Rules

Oh! β€œA federal judge on Friday ruled the Energy Department violated the law when Secretary Chris Wright handpicked five researchers who reject the scientific consensus on climate change to work in secret on a sweeping government report on global warming.”

🚨 NEW STUDY: As Australia prepares for another heatwave, our latest study found the early January heatwave which hit SE Australia was made 5x more likely due to climate change. What was once a relatively rare 1-in-25-year event is now expected about every 5 years. 🧡 1/6

For some reason that I cannot compute, "every tenth of a degree matters" has become a catch-cry for ending climate targets, dismissing the Paris Agreement as outdated and moving climate discourse centre-right.

This is so wild to me. We set targets *SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE THE INCREMENTS MATTER*

a graphic showing the slower emissions reductions cause more greenhouse gas emissions over time

a graphic showing the slower emissions reductions cause more greenhouse gas emissions over time

This isn't a debate about policy design or differing paths to the same goal

One is a plan to allow more emissions (and therefore, more harm / death), and one is a plan to *at least try* to reduce that harm.

The 'debate' is about whether we should let fossil fuels kill people, or try to stop that

Generations from now, when historians study this period where we have perfect understanding of the problem, and brilliant, readily available solutions with all the resources necessary to implement them, they'll study cases like this to try to figure out why we kept drilling holes in our lifeboat.

β€œClimate change isn’t everythingβ€œ is becoming a go-to justification for delaying action.

This is - deliberately or inadvertently - a misframing of the issue. The point isn’t CC is everything, it’s that it’s essential to deal with.
