It's more useful and less weird to just take what was good about Firefly and channel that into a new, cool thing that doesn't have the same weird racist undertones and asshole creator/showrunner.

Like what the hell do you even do with Joss's weird framing of the heroes being an analog for former Confederates?

Like, yes, historically that lines up with the roughly 30 year period that made up "the Wild West." But you can't make the Confederate analog the heroes without taking on the baggage.

I'm in favor of more Buffy because I'd like to see Sarah Michelle Gellar get to produce the show and revisit that character without the toxic influence of Whedon on set, and I think the character and world benefits from further exploration.

Firefly is probably best left where it's at.

I rewatched Firefly a good number of times. "Cowboy outlaws in space" was a really fun premise and the characters were really great.

But I don't actually NEED Firefly for that, especially with its awkward worldbuilding that hits a bit different now that I'm more media literate.

As much I liked Firefly in 2009, I'm way beyond needing it to come back anymore.

Just make a new space western, it's fine.

We all know it's actually really cool to write every single story like the viewers are literal children

And the real issue is that people hate Skylar often because they specifically like Walt despite everything

I don't think Skylar seems fun to hang with, but Walt is so much worse

Honestly that post is such a flabbergasting take that says so much more about the person saying it than it does about the show lol

The show was so unclear when Walt worked with literal fucking Nazis in order to make more money, long after he'd already made more money than he and his family could ever spend

Who even knows what they intended in Season 2 when Walt intentionally let a young woman die and inadvertently caused even more deaths and a collective trauma for everybody around him

If only the show had let us know how to feel about Walt

The scene where Walt's disabled son throws himself in front of his mother to protect her from Walt right before he kidnaps his own daughter really didn't make it clear what a pathetic monster Walt was, apparently

So amoral, who even knows what they meant by that

It's really funny that the Macho Man Randy Savage Giant that One Piece introduced 13 years ago now has a fully fleshed out emotional journey

I think the reason is many people need to experience something more than once to really internalize it, which they're more likely to have done with older stories

It's one thing to trade artistic favors with friends, it's another to take on unpaid interns to do a full-time job.

One is community, the other is exploitation.

Oh, btw: we only hire people we can pay. What we do is way too much work to go unpaid.

I only say this because people have sent emails to me before offering to work for free, and while I appreciate the thought that's not how I'll ever run a production.

If I had my way we'd be producing 2 seasons of the main campaign and at least 1 mini-campaign every year.

If we can eventually get the show in a place where we can afford to hire help, we'll bare minimum do the 2 seasons a year part haha

We're planning some really exciting things for Tales Unwritten lately. We haven't confirmed everything yet, but so far it's shaping up to be really cool.

And don't worry, it's not affecting Book 3's production.

I 100% felt the temptation to just believe it's proof, but that's the kind of thing that bites us in the ass if the number goes back up later.

Sustained lower numbers will be worth a victory lap.

I'm entirely self-taught, so I have no idea how my work sounds to other composers, but I do my best haha

But they're so expensive, I've never taken the risk on them

I tend to focus on orchestral scores, but I dabble in nearly everything haha

I've actually been looking into Arduino for a completely unrelated reason as well, so I may give that a shot!

I don't say this to be a buzzkill, it just matters that we're honest. I completely believe socialist policies actually work, so I want us to produce irrefutable proof here in the US.

We don't need to conflate correlation and causation if we're right.
