"Developed"? "Created"?
Will it still have the same Python API, but just call a compiled Rust library?
Just something to consider when evaluating these chatbot cases.
Incoming Onion headline: "College sports leaders upset that Trump Administration usurping sports' traditional role in undermining US higher education"
the LLM agents are pretty close to mastering the ancient art of crashing out about interaction numbers on main now
Two people talk to each other. A man, in a striped polo, with an Apple II for a head. A woman, in a blouse, with a Disk II disk drive. They're using their hands animatedly. Illustration drawn by Martin Cannon.
"Martin, can you draw an image to illustrate the disk drive communicating with the computer?" "Say no more, Eric & Will." (Source.)
If you thought the memory crisis was bad have you heard yet about what the war in the middle east could do to the place where the overwhelming majority of the memory chips are made?

I always read "street smart" more as social intelligence - being skilled at reading people, navigating social situations, achieving outcomes through connections and relationships vs knowledge.
But it was also a participation trophy for a lot of folks, too π
New conversation on Interconnects w Dean Ball on why the Anthropic v DoW moment could strengthen the long-run case for open models - even if the next few years get rough for open.

I love this concept!
Sure. I was thinking of something like a self-hosted Coolify or Dokku, so you'd only have to touch caddy/docker compose once. You'd still need some system on top of that to handle PDS auth and interfacing with the user's data, though - I'm not sure what would be possible out of the box.
I've been playing with this, and where I've landed so far is "not on the PDS directly, but on a separate Docker container on the PDS server"
You just have to update the caddy config, then you have a wide range of choices for what you install alongside the PDS.
And folks like @chadfowler.com are looking back at their own lessons, and reasoning about how they apply.
Much like cattle not pets, we're roughly heading for specs not code.

Economist Alex Imas has been tracking the evidence on AI and productivity changes, and now thinks that the macro-economic data is, rather suddenly, showing the increase in productivity that we have been seeing in our micro research. aleximas.substack.com/p/what-is-th...
The providers of the chatbot are the ones with the First Amendment rights. They're the ones being regulated.
I'm actually working on an article that argues that generative AI models are publications much like books / movies. Chatbots encode numerous human editorial decisions.
Research shows LLM framing affects belief in their mental capacities. When presented as companions, belief increases; as machines, skepticism rises, leading to cautious interactions. This may guide future AI communication. https://arxiv.org/abs/2510.18039
I think one of the most staggering industry shifts in my 16 years as a tech reporter is that itβs not become a question of βshould our product help the government kill and/or surveil people?β but βto what extent?β

Look i know ai is "not sentient" but like, if you went back in time to the 90s and told someone about this, they would tell you you had a sentient robot inside your computer
